Hi,

I am looking for violin and piano teachers for my kids who are 5 and 8 respectively in the Flower Mound and surrounding areas. I was wondering if you know teachers who are fun and don't stress too much on theory. In home or out is okay. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter started the violin beginning in 6th grade and they were taught the Suzuki method. We went on to be in the highest level orchestra at Middle and High School levels.

We didn't know it but she has a knack for music and she can play songs by ear. My favorites are the ColdPlay songs she plays.

We did use private instruction throughout the years. My suggestion would be to speak with your current music teacher because they know the teachers in the upcoming levels who are tutors, etc.

I can't answer about the piano, we only did violin.

We did purcchase her violin at Dallas Strings in Allen, TX. They are very reliable, honest and great to work with. My understanding is that they also take care of the instrument rentals for Allen High school and some McKinney schools.

Good luck!

What about asking the school's music teacher? If your school does not have one, ask at the school district which schools do have music teachers and then go ask the one closest to your home. Good luck.

It may be a bit far for you, but I take my son to Dallas Suzuki Academy (http://www.dallassuzukiacademy.com/) at 75 and Walnut Hill. They have teachers for cello, violin, piano, and guitar. I haven't had any experience with the piano teacher, but the two violin teachers are both excellent. Sarah Reinke, in particular, is just amazing at working with little kids and keeping it fun.

I found my girl's piano teacher by calling the store where we bought the piano. FYI... I do not recommend the Suzuki method for learning to play piano. I went that route with my oldest daughter and had to find a new teacher eventually because my daughter wanted to play broadway show tunes and not just classical music. My youngest daughter started reading music from day 1 and is much better than her sister was after playing for 4 years. (It is my understanding that the Suzuki method is great for learning violin though).
