You can get them at Target and Babies R Us and I am sure other places too.
We love ours.
We are about to move our 11 month old in his crib into my 3-year old son's room (we only have a 3 bedroom house). Since my 3-year old son is COMPLETELY able to climb in and out of cribs (he's in and out of the baby's crib and my 2-year old daughter's crib all the time). I want to make sure that he doesn't decide to crawl into the baby's crib with him and have something horrible happen.
HOWEVER, it's so hard to read through all the reviews on monitors! UGH! Our phone is run thru Comcast so it's by our computer, it's a cordless phone, our computer connection is high speed but not wireless.
Can anyone out there give me a good review on a video monitor that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg!?!?

I'm not sure a video monitor is the solution, you can't be checking all day and night what's happening in the bedroom, especially when everybody is sleeping... and if he decides he wants to sleep with the baby he can go into the crib without anybody hearing anything early morning or after bedtime...
The best thing to do would be to teach your son what he is allowed to do, a 3 year old is able to understand that, even if you have to repeat over and over and/or temporary put a high gate at the baby's bedroom door.
The LCD monitors are running a little over $100 at stores (Best Buy etc.) or you can check on line for a bargain.
The video monitor sounds like a good idea but the screen is rather bright when you are trying to sleep so I wanted to make another suggestion. What about a crib tent so he can't get in there? It will also keep the baby in when he gets to that age. Two birds one stone. When I purchased one they were about $70 at Babiesrus. Kind of off your request but it's just a thought I had when reading it.
:-)
Good luck!
I'm not sure about a monitor, but a friend of mine had the same problem. She bought one of those mesh tents that fit over the crib to keep her daughter from climbing into it. They're sold a babies r us, I think they're around $80.
Hello, boy's for some reason are nature born climbers. Buy a bunk bed for him, let him sleep on the top, you would hear him, if he climbs down. Also set boundres tell him he can not climb in and out of the crib, it is not safe for him or the other children. Best of luck to you and your family.
have you considered a portable video monitor? we have one made by summer infant, and i think they just came out with a newer one. i use it all the time, and have had it since my daughter, now almost 4, was about 8 months old. we did have to have the video monitor portion of the set (we have 2 cameras, one for each room) replaced once, and if you send your broken one to the company they will send you a new one for 1/2 price. i thought it was reasonable. plus, it comes with a cord you can plug into your t.v. so you can watch them on t.v., too. i think when i bought mine it was around $175, i think i ordered an extra camera for around $40-50.
plus, you can charge the monitor and unplug it to carry it around, even outside. the range is pretty decent.
we also purchased one of those mesh 'tent' things to attach to our cribs just to make sure the cats stayed out of the cribs. ordered it off babies-r-us for about $70-$80. well worth it, i thought. plus, we put it back up when the babies figured out how to climb out of their cribs! saved us from a lot of boo-boos!!!
