Video Camera

We are having our first baby and want to invest in a video camera. Nothing too bulky and it doesn't need to be fancy. Just want it to be able to be easy to use, easy to view the videos and easy to share the videos, plus produce a good quality picture. All without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

get a flip. we spent so much money on a bulky panasonic that we never wanted to carry around with us and thus never used. the flip is cheap and small (size of a phone). good quality and you can get it in HD. we use it all the time cause its easy to pull out whenever/wherever. look at amazon for best price. good luck and enjoy!

I suggest a sony handycam, it's awesome. It has the Carl Zeiss lens, stores to hd and then you can burn the dvd on your computer, or store to memory card. It hold hundreds of hours (I got mine at Christmas to replace my old one and I STILL haven't erased anything and still have 512 minutes of recording time!) It is well worth it, I think it's like $300. It will last you through the baby years and on through childhood where you'll be taping longer stuff like school plays and games and such.

Hands down, Sony Handycam with the hard drive. Love it more that my Nikon D 80 that takes video. Good luck and remember to take tons of video. They grow so quick. Congrats on the new baby!!!

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a digital camera that takes video. You are going to be lugging the baby and your diaper bag and maybe also a purse, do you really want to add the bulk of a video cam PLUS the regular cam? Having it all on one is incredibly easy. We have a Sony (actually its our 3rd, we love them but have upgraded to better features over the years) and the quality's great. I have uploaded the video on the web and made it into a DVD (very easy w/Windows Movie Maker program, I think it came w/Vista) that plays back excellently.

When we had our son 2 years ago, my MIL bought us a Canon ZR 500 Digtal Video Camera. It is compact and not bulky at all! Check them out, she got it on sale at Best Buy!
Happy camera hunting!

I would 1st check out the memory formats.

I did lots of research and finally went with a Sony Handicam that uses a memory card and it has an internal hard drive.

Then check out Amazon for Ace Photo Digital. I got a sweet deal on a video camera bundle from them.

The Flip is the best! The new ones may have more memory, but mine only records 30 minutes. But realistically, who wants to watch more than 30 minutes at a time of my kid? It's small (2.5 x 3.5 inches maybe...) and has a built in USB adapter. Our families do not live close so I blog short videos (under 1 min.) and photos for our friends and family.

We recently got a Panasoni SDR-H60 and love it. It's so stinkin' small and under $300 (I think). Got it new on ebay so check prices. Higher in store. Can record onto hard drive OR HD card and I can't even tell you how many hours of record time it has!! Good luck.

Definitely go with a Flip! I'm a junior high teacher and we have several of them that we use with the kids all the time. Easy to use, easy to view, and affordable! :-)
