Hey moms! My husband and I are trying for baby #2!! I've been off the pill for two months but still no pregnancy. The problem is is that i seem to have all the symptoms for it. I've had lower backaches, headaches, very sore boobs (which I didn't have the first time around), heavier boobs, and I'm always extremely tired. I had a negative test and then I started the next day. Do I need to talk to my doctor, or when would I need to talk to my doctor? Do I just ignore these issues? Of course, I'm afraid that i'm psychologically thinking I may have these symptoms b/c we've been trying.

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

Sounds like PMS to me. Some women have more sever PMS (like me) others more mild. Try taking some motrin when you feel the symptoms coming on and take a test the day you know you're late. I had never been on BC when I got pregnant with my first but when I was trying for # 2, it took me 7 mnths after getting off the pill which felt like forever. # 3 came after only 1 mnth of being off the pill so you never know bow long it will take.
Good luck to you!!

That's how I feel before I start my period. I agree with the poster that said give it some time. My OB didn't even want us to try intil I had been off the pill for 4 to 5 months. Then it seemed like it took forever after that. Stay strong and HAVE FUN TRYING!!!!!!!

Its probley because your off the pill, the pill regulates your hormones and helps with some of the symtoms associated with menstration. Some of it may be in your head. I would say don't try that can be exhausting too, just let it happen. Best of luck!

Be patient, it has only been 2 months, sometimes it takes longer for your body to be completely hormone free. Your OBGYN won't consider you as having fertility issues until it has been at least a year and then he/she will wnat you to take your basal temp and keep a log as to how often you are having sex ect. Just relax and enjoy being with your husband. Unless there is a timeline for getting pregnant,or you had trouble conceiving your first child just let nature take its course
Good Luck

You could be pregnant with a false negative and even with periods. I have had friends that continued to have periods and found out a couple of months down the road that they were pregnant.

You know, I had no problems with the first two, was pregnant within minutes it seemed of stopping the pill. With baby 3, it took around a year and a half. Sometimes it just does. Go to the doctor and get checked out and just try to relax and have fun making the baby, lol.

Well, I agree with both advices you've gotten, after getting off of b.c. I also felt that way a few months and the doc told me it was just large hormone swings. They had me on Iron pills too, many times when I feel exhausted for no obvious reason my iron is low. Slow-Fe is a good one to take, it's slow release and doesn't "clog" up your "system" quite as much as regular iron supplements. There is a generic in most stores. Keep trying and just have fun with it, don't put TOO much thought into it, you'll go crazy, trust me!

I agree with the previous comment that you could be pregnant with a false negative. I'd have your doctor check with bloodwork. ALSO...if you go to any health food store, you can buy B12 or B- complex viatmins in liquid form. You just take a tablespoon a day in the morning. It gives me a perfect energy boost- not jittery, and no crash later in the day. However, I'd make sure you're not preg first because I have no idea if it's good to do during pregnancy. My doc doesn't really like me to take anything but the prenatal vitamins when I'm pregnant.(but hopefully those days are over)---Good luck and I hope you guys are preg soon!

Get your thyroid checked. Low iodine can contribute to the sore boobs AND iodine is what makes up your thyroid hormone. Above all, fatigue is one of the primary symptoms of low thyroid. Also, please don't try to get pregnant without first ensuring it's not your thyroid - having low thyroid during pregnancy negatively impacts the fetus. If they test your thyroid make sure along with TSH (which is actually a pituitary hormone) that they check your Free T3, Free T4, TPO and anti-thyroid antibodies. If you have antibodies, the TSH test is meaningless and you need thyroid hormone (you should be treated to the point that your pituitary has little impact on your thyroid - i.e., TSH less than 1).

Low thyroid is a very highly undiagnosed problem and the triggering of the problem (autoimmune) is very, very common after childbirth. Pregnancy suppresses your immune system (so your body keeps the fetus) and after childbirth it revs back up. In many of us it over revs and we end up with our body attacking it's own organs and the thyroid seems to be a very common candidate. It could well be because it's already been compromised due to deficiencies in key nutrients that are lacking in many diets including iodine, selenium and zinc. Also, B vitamins are important, especially while on and post BC as BC pills deplete your B vitamins.

Here's a good discussion on the nutrients and thyroid:
http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/topsupplements.htm

Also, as others mentioned, your iron could be low and iron is necessary to get the thyroid hormone into your tissue. So, along with thyroid tests, as the doc to measure ferritin.

Your body always prepares itself to become pregnant so your progesterone levels are high which causes all of those symptoms. If you start the next day it generally is because a pregnancy did not occur. So the levels fall off and you start. I agree with the some of the other posters that your body need to get rid of the hormone that is in the pill. So it may be a few months 4, 5, or 6 months before your body is really ready.

If you want to see if you are truly ovulating try taking your temp every morning at the same time and on the days that there is a spike in temp then that is a sign that your body is ovulating.

http://www.ovusoft.com/products/ this site has great references and a great program for your computer to help you track your progress.

Do forget that getting there is half the fun.
Good Luck!

Im 35 and have never been on the pill and I have one 6yr old girl, but I have sore boobs quite often, and go thru times when Im very tired and have aches and pains. SO MANY things can give you those symptoms. Cold/Allergies, hormones, certain illness like fibromyalgia(sp?) just lifting somehthing the wrong way can give you a sore back. Definatley make sure your eating really well...and drinking plenty of water and getting decent rest and just give it time. This process is different for everyone so if you're really concerned go see your docter!

We are also trying for #2, and this happens to me around the time to start my cycle. I think it's: 1. because my periods are so much heavier when not on the pill AND I've forgotten what PMS is like and 2. I want to be pregnant so I am hyper-aware of any symptoms.

I've actually been pregnant 4 times (lost 3) and what helps me is to try to lose weight or get focused on something besides getting pregnant, like a new hobby. Of course, it's a strong desire, so you can't forget it completely, but it does make it easier not to obsess.

Certainly don't ever be afraid to ask your doctor about anything. If you think something's not right, call them. They can tell you on the phone whether you should come in or not if you talk to a nurse or someone.

Good luck! It will happen! (for both of us)

Because the b/c pill effects your horomones, it's not uncommon to feel preg for the first few months after going off the pill. Also, it could take up to 6 months for your body to get back in the swing of things, so to speak, so I wouldn't worry about calling the dr until after then.
Good luck!!

Hi L.,

It's important to understand how cortisol levels can affect your body, especially when trying to conceive. Signs of depressed cortisol can include: depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypotension, insomnia, PMS, infertility, impotence (in men), and fibromyalgia. A great book for you is Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes. From the book "There is a category of herbs called adaptogens that help the human body adapt to stress, support normal metabolic processes, and restore balance. They increase the body's resistance to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and promote normal physiologic function".

The 10 most potent adaptogens on the earth, with the highest therapeutic properties available, are now delievered in a fast acting oral spray, called Tunguska Mist. Go to www.VitalHealth.TunguskaMist.com to learn more.

Adaptogens help reduce the negative effects of stress on the body (weakened immune system, decreased energy, mood swings, short temper, anxiety, depression, and fatigue), and help restore balance, or homeostasis. The adaptogens in Tunguska Mist also help to regulate the use of cortisol, allowing the body to maintain a healthy stress response. Tunguska Mist tastes great and with the intra-oral spray you get over 90% of the nutrients absorbed immediately, which go to work within seconds.

My husband and I have been using adaptogens for a long time. We are passionate about helping people reduce the damaging effects of stress on the body and restoring balance NATURALLY, without medications. Good luck and God Bless:)

Best regards,
N.

My sister has ovarian systs, and a hormone imbalance which causes symptoms of pregnancy, but always negative tests. You might want to talk to your doc about it.

Your symptoms may be caused from the change in the hormones that you were putting into your body with your birth control and now the lack of especially if you were on them for awhile. I had stopped mine after 11 years and went through some of those same feelings. It would not hurt to call your doctor and just talk to the nurse, but I bet that is what it is. Good Luck!
