Verizon or Sprint?

I need advice! I am a current customer with Verizon. I want to upgrade to a smart phone for my daughter and I. Right now we have unlimited texting, 1000 min we share between the two of us, free mobile to mobile, voice mail. With the second line, my bill usually runs from $145-150.00/month. To add the two phones with a data package would be another $60.00. Verizon does not have an unlimited package month to month, but sprint does. I have checked into unlimited data package with sprint which would include, unlimited texting, phone calls, data usage, picture mail and internet access for $180.00/month for two phones, only problem is the number of ppl i have talked to about sprint is not what i want to hear. Because so many ppl are switching over to sprint because of the unlimited package you can get, but service is not good. there is an overload. I am so stuck with which way i want to go. Sometimes I think it would be worth the $175.00 cancellation fee with verizon and go with sprint, but i would hate too and then not have good service. HELP!

What can I do next?

Thank you everyone for your response. I had such a horrible experience with Sprint years ago that I wouldn't use them if they paid me too...but that's just me. :)

We have been with Verizon for a while now and I've never really had any problems. Their customer service has always seemed good the few times I've had an issue.

Good Luck!

We quit Sprint and moved to Verizon.

I don't like their fees - but their service is GREAT!!! I think in our 6 years with Verizon - I've only had one rude person.

Go into your local store and talk with one of the associates and tell them what you want to do...

We moved from Verizon to sprint because Verizon woudn't address our problems with their customer service. They basically tolds us that rudeness and poor service was what they do best and If we didn't like it we could go pound sand.

So we went to sprint. Sprint has had its problems, but overall, I like sprint better. We have outlived our contract and I won't renew so If I get bad service I can move at will without penalty.

The reason they have such huge early cancellation fees is because of they hire and pay very poorly for customer service people and they figure most people will only change for a major problem.

We get better reception for Sprint than we did with verizon, but that varies with where you make calls. Be sure to check their coverage areas before you make any changes.

Good luck to you and yours.

ETA: From the looks of the responses, there isn't any phone company that isn't plagued with problems and bad customer service.

I have had sprint since the dawn of the cell phones for us. About 18 years?
Back when we paid for 30 minutes total on one giant phone. LOL

My hubby has had other company cells thru work and has hated them all. The dropped calls and the phones themselves.

Right now we have a pan with all the unlimited stuff, data and all that, but we do share regular time minutes (we have the free cell to cell, evening and weekend, long distance and all that normal stuff). W have 5 phones on our plan (me, hubby, teen daughter, then my BIL and SIL on our plan too). My hubby gets a 17% discount thru work.

We pay about $160 of the bill for 3 lines, and my BIL pays about $100-$110 each month. We have great coverage when we travel to more remote locations in the mountains and other places in winter to snowmobile. I almost never have dropped calls locally. We rarely in all these years have had issues.

Currently my hubby, daughter and I have HTC EVO 4g phones and have had them since the summer they came out (2 yeas ago). We love them and they are the first phones we have have so little issues with. One really. This makes a huge difference.

Hubbys is just plain wearing out (the speaker makes funny noises!). DD's has scratches and marks in hers. Mine is fine! Hubby is waiting for a windows based Sprint phone to see if he wants to switch to that.

We love Sprint and have no plans to switch carriers anytime.

We left Verizon to go to Tmobile because back in the day, Verizon was going to charge us an extra $50 per month, per phone, just to upgrade to a Blackberry. So we left...worst decision ever!!! We NEVER had a problem with Verizon, got great customer service and never had calls failed or phone problems. Tmobile, not so much! So as soon as our contract is up, we are going back to Verizon, its worth the higher cost in my opinion. Good luck!

We've had Verizon, T-Mobile, Family Mobile (T-Mobile via Walmart), and now Sprint. They were all about the same. We left Verizon because we had NO service the second we pulled into our neighborhood. We left T-Mobile for Family Mobile because it was the SAME service for MUCH less a month. We left Family MObile because T-Mobile service isn't as good in the rolling hills of southern Indiana like Sprint is.

We've only been with Sprint for 1 month +. So far, so good. I am still waiting on my rebate from buying my phones, though.

We also looked at Smart Talk via Walmart, but they didn't have smart phones a month ago. Guess what? They do now for $130. My friend had ST for years, and then switched over to the smart phone and is VERY happy with it. She pays $95 a month for two phones with unlimited coverage. We would have done that instead.

You also need to look into where you or hubby works to see if they offer any corporate discounts. We save 18% a month on the monthly package price (not the data price).

Be careful of the $175 cancellation fee....you will be charged that for EACH phone you have on your service.

I have seriously tried all the carriers and love sprint and have bee with them now for 4 years. They have the best plan, we have 2 iPhones and pay I think $150, with unlimited everything. Also I get great reception and have never had a problem. But obviously every area is differen for coverage so look in to it!

You can find a map of coverage areas on the web site for each company I think and see where you would get better reception. We get fine reception with Sprint and have smart phones and get all the unlimited and it is very good for us. If you are in an area that has no or little reception you can talk to them about it first and then make the decision. Sometimes they can do things to make it better for your area.
