Venting About Outrageous Formula Costs

I am seeking Good Start Supreme Formula coupons. That is if anyone is willing to part with them. I searched ebay and it is outrageous. It is so hard to get any coupons for formula, let alone ones for Good Start. My son who is 5 months old loves his formula. We were strictly breastfeeding until I returned to work. Of course the first formula I started him on was Similac Advance. It was too harsh for him. The 100% Whey Protein in Good Start worked wonderfully. I suppose I am just venting. My husband just returned from a formula shopping trip. $24.09 for a 25.7oz can of powder! He had to buy 2 cans at Target, since Wegman's didn't have it. I couldn't believe the price when he told me. If the price continues to go up, I don't know how I'll react. We buy formula for home and for Day Care. I guess every 10 days I'll just have a heart attack. Don't get me wrong. I am greatful that we are able to afford our children. I just think its aweful to be put in a position where changing isn't an option. Not to mention bidding on free coupons to save a few bucks, doesn't really seem to be the way to go either. Any advice or motherly wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

So What Happened?

Wic is out of the question. Our combined household income puts us in the "do not qualify" bracket. It's bull if you ask me. So, we were on the hunt for deals. I did however find Good Start fairly reasonable at Toys R Us. It was a rare find. $19.29 for a 25.7 oz and 25% more free. It saved us $8 on 2 cans. It has been the best deal so far. Thanks everyone for the responses. I greatly appreciate it.

Hi L.,
I went throught the same thing except my son was on alimumtin, if you look at the prices you will find that that formula is 2x the price of regular simulac or isomil. I called everyone i could because I knew that although we make a good living, we couldn't aford the 150.00 a week that it would cost. First I called my son's peditrician and asked for some samples. they usually have lots in stock from their rep (although from what my ped said, the A.P.A. doesn't recognize good start and isn't regulated by them, that might be an issue for you to look into) next I called the simulac company and asked them for coupons(which they gladly sent me) and then I applied for WIC. You would be surprized at how high their income limits are, most families of 4 will be accepted. Now we are one wic and although I have had to buy formula once or twice because i ran out before my checks were valid, we are not broke from feeding our little boy! Good luck!

Have you tried to contact WIC for some help. You can even call the company. My son was having problems with formula and was placed on Alimentum. Icalled and Simalac sent me coupons for it. They are only for a dollar off but when I run out and have to buy it at $25.00 a can it helps. I hope this will help you.

Hi L.,
I can agree with the costs of formula. My daughter is just 3 weeks old, so I have not had to buy a ton of formula yet, but I know it is coming. I currently have one coupon for $8.00 off and I know I had 2 on top of my daughter's dresser but am not sure if I threw them out due to using Enfamil with my daughter. I just received an envelope in the mail at the end of last week with coupons in it but threw it out again because I am using Enfamil and I did not know anyone using Good start right now. I can check and see if I still have the other two if you like, but if not, you are more than welcome to this one. Just let me know if you would like it. Have you checked walmart for their prices on good start? I believe it was 19 or 20 when I was there yesterday. Also Babies R Us has decent prices usually. I know they were like $2 cheaper for the enfamil.
Anyway, let me know regarding the coupons because you can gladly have at least the one I know I have.

Formula is very expensive. You need to go on WIC. I had to. And don't think it's for lower income people, I make a decent living FT at St. Joes, and Evans dad has a great job, director of supported living at St. Joes, we both have great benefits, and make good money, but it would cost us at least $100.00 a week for formula (and that's now that Evan is eating cereal and fruit and veggies and not going through as much). We were using the concentrated, but now he's on the powder. We got 31 cans of concentrate a month and now get 9 cans of powder. It's a great program. Initially, I was embarrassed, too, but when I realized how many people were on it, I thought, hey, if we can get it, we may as well. Buying diapers, wipes and all the other things babies require is expensive, don't get me wrong, I'd spend every penny I have on him, but if you can get a little help, there's no harm in it.
