Vba2c

I am currently pregnant with my 3rd child. I had a c section in Sept 04 with my daughter, failure to descend, and a failed VBAC in March 06 with my son, failure to progress. I am having a lot of issues with scheduling a repeat section. This pregnancy has been soo different, less weight gain and I am doing some interventions to help with fetal positioning. Has anyone had a VBC after 2 c section and have a dr they could reccomend?? Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

The risk of your uterus rupturing is too great. Very few if any doctors would let you VBAC after 2 cesareans. Also, given your history, you probably would not give birth vaginally unless your baby is very small. The only way you are likely to VBAC at this point is if you walked into labor and delivery and the baby was practically out. I hope I haven't burst your bubble but be safe for the babies.

If you are considering a VBA2C I would encourage you to start looking around for doulas or independent childbirth instructors in your area. They can point you in the direction of supportive care providers. They may also be able to offer you some hands on support with techniques to help you acheive VBA2C.

Research shows that the risk of rupture with VBA2C is no higher than with VBAC--so don't let any scare provider try to tell you differently. There are some great birth videos on the 'net of VBA2C, even with "descent" and "FTP" issues like yours. I'd encourage you to look around for some of them for encouragment.

My sister-in-law had a VBA2C in the mid 80's after two planned cesaerans--breech & then planned repeat. She says emphatically that the vaginal birth was easier than the recovery from the cesareans. I do wish you the best!

Check www.babybodybirth.com to find an independent childbirth educator in your area. They are based in Vorhees, NJ, so may have an educator near you.

Hugs & good luck.

Hi D. -
I am a labor and delivery nurse and I strongly WOULD NOT recommend trying a VBAC again. Your chances of uterine rupture increase with each c-section. Most doctors won't even attempt it. Also, with failure to descend and failure to progress as the reasons for your first 2 sections, your chance of being successful are very low. Did you go into labor on your own with your first two, or were you induced? I would be very careful about being induced if you do decide to attempt a VBAC. I know c-sections are very painful and not exactly what you want, but trying to labor your uterus with 2 previous scars on it could have a bad outcome. Good luck in whichever route you choose.

Congratulations! vba2c is possible and still a safe choice. It might take some hunting to find a doctor that is willing to "allow" it though. You might want to look at midwives first. Also, consider hiring a doula. Doulas have lots of tricks to get a stalled labor back up again and can help avoid a c-section. They are also wonderful advocates for your wishes, so they can help you get the birth that you want.
Something else too, remember, you are a healthcare consumer, you are paying them, so you have a right to the service that you deserve and desire. You have the right to refuse/request any medical procedure. This is something that many moms forget about in labor. You don't have to do it because they say so! Be an educated consumer, know what you want and don't be afraid to stand for it. Obviously, in a true medical emergency, you need to go along with what they ask.
I wish you the best, and hope that you can have a successful vba2c!

Congrats on wanting a VBA2C ! I've had 2 c sections, and now that I've done tons of research, my next one will be a VBA2C!!! This is the best website I have found ...I don't know if you are close to the PGH area, but the midwives center on Penn Ave is probably what you are looking for. You may want to consider attending a VBAC support meeting there that I believe is on the 2nd wed of each month. Here is the website...the statistics reveal that its more dangerous having a c section...

Keep in mind that every pregnancy is different and everyone's body is different. No matter what doctor you go to, their first and foremost goal should be "healthy baby/healthy mom". If they are willing to let you try to VBAC it should only be because they are confident that this is safe for both you and the baby...not just because you or a friend or whomever told you that VBAC is the way to go.
If you really want to try VBAC I would PERSONALLY go to several doctors and let them review YOUR personal delivery records. Most of the time, they are willing to let you give it a go. But take it from me...you want what is best for the baby!

I just needed to add something from the standpoint of a health care provider...you DO have the choice to choose your provider and the course of your own treatment, but please keep in mind that it goes both ways. The doctor ALSO has the right to refuse to treat you based on your requests. They have a higher power to answer to.. it is called the legal system!! Many people can refute this but if a doctor gets sued, they CAN loose their license to practice and without a license they have no means of making a living so believe me...they will ALWAYS choose the safest route for you and the baby. Birthing centers, doulas, midwives are all EXCELLENT choices and I have had many friends have wonderful experiences, but, I have also had friends who had to be rushed out of the birthing center and into a strange environment due to the baby going into distress and needing emergency care. There is nothing shameful about using the services of a doctor or hospital if your particular situation calls for it and all that I am saying is that you need to find what is best for you AND the baby regardless of what anyone believes!

D.,
Good for you for choosing the healthiest choice for both you and your baby. There are midwives and doctors who will do VBA2C you just have to do a little foot work. Have you checked out VBAC.com or Choicesinchildbirth.org? You may find what you are looking for there. It is possible. Don't give up.

Hi D.,

I have never been in your position, but I think you will get the most support by using a midwife vs. a Dr. I used the midwives at Magee and they were great and I have friends who have had successful vbacs with the Midwife Center in the Strip District (delivery at AGH).

Good luck!

As a Doula my suggestion would be to get with an experienced Doula in your area and have her act as an advocate at your next docs appt. I am on a tristate connection so if you need help with the doula thing...let me know...best of luck...also they should be able to give you an estimate of scar tissue from an u/s
