I am having my varicous veins removed (stripped) next week. I am wondering what the recovery is? Can I go back to being active soon? We have three kids, I teach first grade, and run a lot. Anyone done this and know?

What can I do next?

I had varicose veins removed in one leg 2 years ago. The recovery wasn't to bad, just some pain and discomfort. I had to take it easy for about a week but was still able to take care of my 2 year old. My hubby took off work a couple of days to help me out too. I also remember having to have my leg elevated for a while. My sister-in-law had a lot of varicose veins removed in both legs at the same time. Her job requires her to be on her feet a lot and she had to take a few weeks off work. She said that she was in a lot of pain after having hers done. Make sure you buy some compression stockings before you have your surgery. Your doctor or pharmacist should be able to help you pick out the size. My doctor still recommends that I wear mine to help the circulation in my legs.

I should hope that your doctor will tell you these things. You want to do what is best for your recovery. Only your doctor has the facts. Others can tell you their experiences but what they say may not apply to you or your procedure.

I wish you a swift recovery! All my best. M.

I'm wondering why your doctor has chosen stripping over a more modern laser technique. I had laser ablation on a varicose vein a few years ago, and I was under the impression that stripping was very rarely done anymore.

My friend did and she's a teacher.
I think they told her to not stand all day for a week or two so plan it right.
Other than that, she was/is fine and they were gone.
