Moms, Dads, Grandparents. There is no question here and I am not promoting any product or vitemin. I have nothing to sell you. My husband and I are reading a book called "The Liberation Diet" By Kevin Brown (a registered dietician and personal trainer)And it's making me really angry - if anything - I suggest you read it for yourself. It exposes the food and drug industries in this country. And it is imforming me that the FDA really doesn't have our health in mind when they pass products and subtances through that end up in our food.

Last night was a chapter on MSG. It is IN EVERY"THING - eventhough it's not listed as an ingredient. Do you know why? It's a flavor enhancer and highly addictive. You eat a food - the flavor is hightened to a point where you just have to have more - so you overeat, getting more MSG in your system and the cycle continues. In the 60's it was even in babyfood and baby formula. Why is it bad? Because it gets everyone addicted to foods and snacks that are manufactured and keeps us buying them. And it is why this country is getting fatter and sicker and the artificial colors and fake sweetners affect little growing bodies in heiness ways. The rise in Autism is linked to the maufactured foods as well as obesity, type 2 diabetes, ADHD and the list goes on. I'M angry because at 47 yrs old, having successfully navigated my way past the emotional issues of an eating disorder (compulsive overeating) I still battle the pounds. And I JUST found out why - it's anything that is manufactured that we buy in the store. I've spent decades flogging myself for not having better willpower. I have PCOS and couldn't have my child until I was 43 because of the excess weight. And though no one put the fork in my hand - following the FDA guidelines and their food pyramid is NEVER going to be my answer. It's called the Leberation Diet and I'll let you know how it's going. But I will not get my son started on ANY of the garbage I ate to put me where I was. And it's not just because of the weight it puts on - the weight AND the substances in the current snack and convenience foods at the store trigger our normal hormone, endocrine, organ and whole body health to go haywire. You just have to read the book.

One telling story early on is - do you know what CRISCO is? It's literal meaning is Crystalized Cottonseed Oil. Cottonseeds were an industrial waste created from separating cotton fibers from raw cotton. When you crush the seed a drop of oil comes out. Crisco was originally made by Proctor and Gamble to use in candle and soap making cos hydrogenated cottenseed oil is cheaper than lard and tallo (animal fats). When the electric light was invented they had tons of this stuff after candles became obsolete so they put it in cans and sold it to housewives in place of lard.(Lookes like lard, acts like lard they figured) They never did studies on it for it's safety but their advertising guys said "It's the healthier fat" And that's when they started speaking ill of animal fats. It's not the saturated animal fats that cause plack in the arteries and heart desease - it's the hydrogenated vegitable oils (trans fats)like crisco and all the margerines that are now sold. Radical I know - but my husband has been doing reasearch on this for about 5 years now. And Kevin Brown the author finally tells the truth.

Also - the biggie about MSG is that it affects the hypothalimus. A small part of the brain that regulates everything. I mean literally EVERYTHING. And food we buy at the store ia loaded with it. I'm even reading labels at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's cos they use it in their products too!! (it's called about 20 different things - not just MSG or Mono Sodium Glutimate)

In closing - this is not just about Crisco or MSG it's about so many other things that we need to educate ourselves about. My desire is to make my son as halthy as possible and to correct things that will set me on the road to get dibetes and Alheimer's - I don't want any of that! No one does. But I have a REALLY young child I need to be around a long time for. My father is 83 and my mother is 79 and both are in perfect health. They were raised on the diet that is taught in the Liberation Diet. They take no medications and are VERY active Sr's. In comparison are my husband's Grandparents - they are the same age as my parents. They owned an A&W their whole life and ate a steady diet of fried foods and processed foods. The oil they used was Crisco and the like. Those oils are the ones linked to deseases such as Arthritis and Parkinson's. Grandma has painful debilitating Arthritis and the affects of Parkinson's has finally placed Grandpa in a nursing home. That's my husband's gene pool AND my son's. My gene pool is on the healthy side of the family and I'm feeding myself and my family the same foods my Mom and Dad grew up on.

How did I start? By buying locally grown vegies and fruits at the Farmer's Market, finding a source for raw/unpasturized dairy, grass fed and free range meats without hormones and only using sprouted grain breads. Anything that's a sweet treat I make myself so I know what's in it. It's not really all that hard. I also stop eating @ 7pm so I get really good sleep at night.

I'm grateful that my husband kept searching. He wanted me to feel better and is helping me make these changes so we can all live longer and healthier lives. I'm also grateful to have very vital, young parents as my example. They didn't do anything radical to be as healthy as they are.. My Mom walks and Dad golfs daily and they have always eaten at home. Dining out was always a treat to us as kids. So Mom always made good food with simple ingredients. I think the HUGE key for them is that she always made our food from scratch.

I have to stop now - this is just mindboggling information. And it is way too important to keep to myself. We all have children to keep healthy. And the onset of all these childhood diseases are preventable - WITH KNOWLEDGE. Please don't take this any other way than a concerned, informed Mom trying to help - I have no agenda except to help. I hope it does !!! Blessings, S.

What can I do next?

Wait until you find out about the genetically modified foods by Monsanto causing Margellens(sp)disease. A congresswoman introduced a bill stating that all meats have to be treated with pesticides and radiated before it can be sold in the US. She is married to a Monsanto employee. Go figure. There is so much info on the web. We may all have to grow our own food.

It's always been a good idea to go as raw as possible. I, personally am going to stick with pasteurized milk/dairy, because of possible contaminants (udders are to close to the back end of a cow or goat for my comfort!), but we're starting to do a lot of raw veg and if we want a treat, we usually make it from scratch.

But you're right in essence, it's time for us to stop BEING cows and letting ourselves be led by the nose by industries who in the end are just trying to make money.
