Just curious. Is anyone doing something special for their significant other? I know we as women are generally used to getting something special, but what about giving? If so, please share your ideas. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Everything worked out perfectly. It turns out that he was satisifed with me actually (and I really did) appreciating everything he did, his thoughtfulness, time, and effort.

We don't celebrate valentines day, but I did make my husband a cheesecake. My husband likes good food and yummy desserts.

As a wife, and as most women, I show my love for him regularly, so even if it wasn't VD, I would have probably made him a cheesecake.

I decided to go for something that my husband would really enjoy...but not the typical thing. We live near the Kansas Speedway so I asked him if he would like tickets to see the NASCAR Sprint Cup Race in June ( We aren't going to be in town for the BIG NASCAR Race in Oct) but he said no...thank goodness I didn't just spend the $250 on the 2 tickets without asking!!! So now I am getting him a pair of season tickets to the Arena Football Team here in town. This is a real "I am sacrificing for you" moment because I do not particularly love Arena Football...but will go along and cheer the team on to victory because I know he loves it so!!!
I know this isn't the usual mushy hearts and flowers valentines present but why not do something that they really really like. Besides...we have been married for over 40 years now and we are way past the moonlight and roses...lol.
But I LOVE SuzT's idea about the Heart shaped Meatloaf...and since we both LOVE meatloaf I may have to add this to our next years Valentines Day Celebration....lolol. ( This year he is taking me out to a fancy restaurant...no meat loaf for us this year)

I usually make a really nice dinner with red wine. Other than that he gets a nice card and candy. The last two years my kids made valentines placemats and set the table really cute for my husband and i. (while i was cooking) They ate dinner early and occupied each other for a couple of hours. It was heaven :)

Nope, my husband and I agreed (as we usually do) to spend $5 or less on each other. This way we aren't going broke. We do special things for each other throughout the year, valentines day is more for our kids now.

Hi D.,
Yeah some people say V day is a "Hallmark" holiday and too commercialized. Actually it's been around far longer than the card companies, it was actually instated 496 AD. And why not pick a day to be romantice, we're all so busy with schedules and careers...
Anywhoo if you don't wanna give to Hallmark or whatever then be romantic and write e love letter to your husband. Anybody can buy a card and this year I couldn't find a card that says it all. So I'm writing my man a love letter, it snot sappy but telling him why I fell in love with him and how I appreciate how hard he works for his family etc.
Its too late to do this now but I did buy a pack of those kiddie cards(they come with 24 or whatever) and starting on Feb 1st I would give him one everyday where he could find it, like his workshirt pocket and taped one to the steering wheel of his car and stuck one in his shoe today.
Our daughters always make hime a special homemade valentine and on the actual day of we're taking them bowling(supposed to be free at Bowl America if you wear red) and going out to dinner at a fun restaurant we havent been to in forever.
Oh I did get him a massage gift certificate since he does stand on his feet all day at work, one of those deep tissue massages, not a couples thing though just for him.
Have a fun day whatever you decide to do :)

My husband and I had a date night that he planned this past Friday night and we exchanged small gifts but I also wanted to do something special on V Day for him. I set the table in our dining room last night w/a red tablecloth, red candles, wine glasses, V Day napkins, etc. A simple setting for two. I told the 14 yo last night that I want him to watch his 2 yo brother for 1/2 hour while his father and I eat and talk in peace (they will be in the next room but still...it's a break). I am making steak, spanakopita (his fave), salad and roasted root veggies. I also splurged and bought the large, long stem strawberries at the grocer and dipped them in chocolate while I was making dinner last night. Hopefully, we will have a nice dinner together tonight and some "adult" fun later on. LOL

Geesh...Grandma T's heart shaped meatloaf with 'spurting tomato' may make MY menu this year...Was gonna have 'poor man's surf and turf' (steak on sale...shrimp on sale)...But the whole visual!!! lol

For me...his gifts are 'typical'...candy, cologne, card...but his Bday is the 15th.

The valentine's stuff is mostly for the 'kinder'...

***OOPS!!! Meant Suz T's meatlof!!!***

We moved away from all our family almost two years ago, we also added to our family unit with our DD arriving 5 months ago. So for the last couple birthdays ( I was so pregnant I didnt want to do anything) valentines, and anniversarys we really haven't done anything for one another... Which was fine, we didn't have baby sitters and what not.

This year though I could tell he was up to something so I decided to make it a good one for him too. Where we moved to has only a Super Walmart (which carries no "good" beer) or the HEB (which has to same options) and my husband enjoys a beer from time to time and perfers it to be an actual "good" beer so from me and the kiddos we signed him up for the Beer of The Month Club. He is going to love it!! He will get 12 unique beers you can't buy in stores delivered to the house at the end of every month for a year : )

He works hard for us and I know this is an out of the box idea he is going to appreciate, and I like that it lasts all year.

i am wierd i guess...i figure if i expect him to do something for me i should do something for him. (plus he is soooo not the thoughtful type - he makes it VERY obvious it is a HUGE deal for him to do something nice, so i appreciate it!) this year i have little fundage, so i got him a bottle of cologne (the smallest of the brand he likes) and a card.

We don't celebrate it. We believe its a Hallmark holiday and prefer to do sweet things randomly rather then when society tells us we should.
