Vaginal Odor - Hoven,SD

This is probably one of the most least comfortable subjects for me to talk about but since no one knows who I am on here I feel a bit more comfortable asking. I am 19 weeks pregnant with my second child and I feel like I have a vaginal odor that I did not have prior to being pregnant. I shower and it seems to go away but only for a few hours and then I feel like I smell again. I don't remember having this with my first pregnancy. I don't have any itching or burning happening so I'm guessing it is not a yeast infection (though I'm no doctor so I don't know). Is this normal? Is there anything I can safely do while pregnant to get rid of the odor?

What can I do next?

When you are done washing down there, you can do a final rinse of vinegar & water mix. That helps the smells stay away for a while. Like others have said, this is just one of the many fun things about pregnancies! :)

All kinds of things happen when we are pregnant, so go to the doctor and check it out. Don't be embarressed... they have seen it all. It could be a baterial infection. You don't want anything to cause you or your baby harm.

I had my first yeast infection when I was pregnant with my oldest. I had no itching or burning so I didn't know anything was wrong, but I did notice a smell. My doctor did a swab and said it was yeast. She gave me the cream and it took care of the problem. You might want to ask your doctor to check on your next visit.

Also, don't use feminine deodorants, soaps, or douches to try to get rid of the smell. All of these things have been linked to a higher risk of female cancers. Adding chemicals to your sensitive areas while pregnant is never a good idea anyway! If I have a smell problem down there, I wash with baby soap in the same manner that they suggest you use feminine wash, but since everyone's body chemistry is different, it may irritate things for some people, even though it doesn't for me.

Vagisil feminine wash worked for me. The Summer's Eve brand did not.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have noticed the same thing. It sucks. I change my underwear durring the day. I read that with all the extra hormones we sweat more down there. Causing a yucky smell. I also have more discharge than i normally do. It said to wear cotton underwear and let it breath without when you can.

My guess is that the odor isn't different, it's just that when you are pregnant you are so much more sensitive to smells and things smell differently. At least that happened with me.

Talk to your doctor about taking a safe probiotic from a safe company. It helps to build the good bacteria in your body.

Best wishes!

It's most likely BV or Bacterial Vagenosis. It is treatable with a insertable jell. Tell your doctor right away. I stil get it even though I am no longer pregnant. It is a PH imbalance in the vagina.

Eat lots of good yogurt -- the kind with lots of active cultures. Activia might work, as well as Stonyfield, etc
