Vacuum Space Saver Bags...

I just bought my first set. I am planning to store our king sized down comforter in one for the summer. Should I have it dry cleaned first? Do I need to take the duvet cover off? I realize I can probably just fold it up, stuff it in and suck out the air, however I am thinking it might be worthwhile to clean everything properly first, then store it so it's ready to go in the Fall/Winter when we need it?

Thoughts? Ideas?

Other than bedding and clothes, what else have you stored in yours?

Do they really work and HOLD?

What can I do next?

Wash it first so it is ready to go when you need it.

They work well for small spaces, we bought then when we moved and they worked great. we packed a few in the car since we were travel and would arrive before our things so we had extra clothes without all the bulk in the car.

They work as long as you are not opening and closing them a lot. Make sure the things you put in there are things you don't want to get back out quickly.

I'd definitely wash it first. If you dry clean it, let it air out a little before bagging it. (I wash my queen down in my washer.)
I LOVE space bags! I use them for packing clothes for vacation, too.
Do NOT over-stuff past the line, the zip seal will break. But when they work/are used properly they are AWESOME!

I love my vacuum bags for storing the baby clothes. I like the new box style they make now, easier to put clothes in. I did rip quite a few bags in the beginning due to over stuffing but now I have the hang of it. My favorite is the bags that are inside a canvas bag. I'm always afraid someone will poke a hole in it and nobody ever realizes how heavy a bunch of clothes can be when handling my bags, so I like the added protection of the canvas bag. I wash all the clothes before I store them and I wash them when they come out, they smell like the plastic bag and I like everything to feel clean.

The bag is going to work great for your comforter. My clothes don't compress all that much, since I have so much in the bag...but it holds and the recommended amount of clothes really compresses.

I love them. I have all of my son's old baby clothes in them. Wash whatever it is first and make sure it is COMPLETELY dry before you store it. As long as you don't stuff it too full, you should be ok. I have actually found that the cheaper knock offs work better than the name brand Space Bags. I bought the generic ones where you vacuum inside the bag and pull it out and zip it really fast. Those have held better for me than the ones where you zip it first and use the nozzle thing in the middle of the bag. Even if they lose their hold, it is good for keeping dust and bugs out. I have also stored stuffed animals in mine. My son has a few huge stuffed animals and I packed them when we were moving. Luckily he hasn't asked for them, because they are still packed and in the attic!

Love them. Our daughter uses them to pack more stuff in her suit cases to and from College. She also uses them to store her stuff up at college. She has never has a problem with them having the air come out..

I bought the Space Savers and I followed the directions (I thought). They didn't work for me at all. :( They sucked everything down great, but after a couple of weeks, the air came out.

I could have been doing something wrong, but let me know how it works for you.

And I washed everything prior to storing it.
