Ok so this is a boring question .... but does anyone have a recommendation for a vacuum? i would like one that will work on carpet and hard floors, lightweight (i have a 2 story townhouse) and something that isn't outrageously expensive but i don't want to replace it in a year either.

i am also looking for a small cordless vacuum.every time i get one it always seems to stop keeping its charge.

Thanks.

What can I do next?

I have a meile upright - it is awesome on floor and carpet. It isn't cheap but so worth it. We have a shedding dog hair problem. It is a bit heavy and we don't have a 2nd floor so go to a carpet store and test some models out. I don't plan ever buying another vacuum.

I have two vacuums

One is the Hoover Linx - it is battery powered/cordless - I LOVE IT!!! I think it's about $120 at Target...great suction and great on stairs!

And the Electrolux central vac...that's a pain - but it's good suction too.

I have never found a vacuum that works well on both carpet or floors. Well my Rainbow did but it is freaking expensive and big.

My Shark is amazing on floors and light. It is corded cause nothing holds a charge. I don't have carpet but when I did I had a Rainbow.

I love my oreck. It's not the cheapest model and is a bit self propelled. Very lightweight and has no attachments. They usually come w a free corded vac w attachments.

Honestly you are going to get out of it what you pay for it. Therefore you have your choice either spend as little money for it now and have to turn back around and replace it in a year or less or you can go with a dyson. They are quite expensive but in my opinion well worth the money. I have had mine for about 3 years now and I love it! Mine works on carpets and we have the "fake" hardwoods downstairs and I use it on that was well-I love it!

The best "cordless" I have found was the "Shark" model I believe. I found it at Wal-Mart but ended up giving it away since we got the Dyson. The only thing is I wish that I had two one for downstairs and one for upstairs not because I think it's heavy-its not bad but it could be better but the sheer fact that my house almost needs to be vacuumed every single day with the kids and the dog and the cat and lastly lets not forget the husband..........

Love my dyson. Yes they are a little pricey, but you can use the 20% off coupons at Bed, Bath and Beyond on them. Ours is about 6 years old and cleans up great after two adults, 1 baby, 1 dog and 3 cats on tile, wood, and carpet.

Look I know you don't want to spend alot but we have 3 dogs so I know what works. When we used our dyson the first time I had to empty the container like 3 times per room. That is how much dust and hair our old one was missing. The carpet even seemed more plush after we did it. It really is worth the money

Shark Navigator is the best vacuum for the money hands down. It's half the price of dyson. It has the power of a dyson, light weight, works great on floors and carpet, has super super suction, and has a 5 year warranty. Most bissels or hoovers only have a 1 year warranty. Everyone who has ever tried it say its the best vacuum they have ever used. Try it, you won't be sorry.

I have 2 Dyson vacuums. Our Dyson ball is the smaller one, and it is very easy to use (even my 6 year old can steer it without any problems, and could when she was 3-4 years old, too!). It works great for my smaller downstairs carpeted area, and I also use it on the wood and tile floors rather than sweeping. For the larger upstairs area, I have a big Dyson canister vacuum. It's actually great for the stairs (it is designed to sit on the stairs without falling off, and since you only move the head/hose, it is not heavy to push around), and boy does it suction! Costco has Dyson vacuums now, so you can get them there for a good price. I think it's worth it to spend a little more on a good vacuum. It will last you for a long time, and over the long run, getting a good one is cheaper than buying a cheap one every year. Just my $0.02!

I live in a two story as well, and I was given a dirt devil upright vacuum (so I don't know price). I LOVE it. It gets out more stuff out of the carpet than you know is there, and the handle goes down to make it easier to lift and use on my stairs. I tried the cordless for a while but found they didn't hold a charge for when I needed to vacuum. So my husband bought me a Bissel Feather Weight. It is corded, but works great and I don't mind the cord anymore as it picks up better than the cordless ever did. I hope this helps. Good Luck :)
