I have a purple Dyson and I have a bias against it because I want a Rainbow vac and can't afford it:) Anyway, the Dyson works well on carpet but sometimes the hose gets clogged and you have to stretch out the 17 feet of hose to find where it is clogged. Also, to me, it is worthless on bare floor. I have mostly hardwood so that is a bummer. However, it works really well on stairs and is easy to carry around and it empties with the pull of a lever. Just make sure you empty it outside because of the dust cloud.
I hope you find what you are looking for! A vaccum is a long term relationship so you want to love it! Good luck!

Hi A.,
We own a different "Cheaper" bagless brand- we have an Eurika, Altima. I love it! I have never gone bagless before- this vacuum picks up everything. We have had it about 6 months- I had always wanted a dyson but we were on a slightly tighter budget than that would allow. Anyway... good luck with your purchase.

Hi A.,
I own the Dyson Slim & I'm not "sold" on this being the best vacuum around. We paid $550 for it about 5 months ago. I vacuumed with our "old" vacuum & then went around with the Dyson & it didn't pick up anything extra like so many people say. I didn't notice the suction being any stronger than our previous vacuum. If I still have this vacuum in 2 years, I'll change my opinion (we've had to replace them around that time frame) but for now, I don't think Dyson is necessarily better than a cheaper brand.

p.s. I do think it does a much better job vacuuming the tile than any other vacuum I've owned.

I just bought a Dyson for Christmas (it's a red DC07) and I really like it. I don't know anyone who's had problems with theirs and that's why I bought one (sorry, I don't know if the purple one has been prone to problems or not). I've used it on my carpet without the beater bar on and even just the suction picks up tons. I've also used it on my hardwood and rugs and was shocked at all the stuff it picked up that my previous vacuum left behind.

I hope you find a vacuum you like at a good price.

Hi A.--There are a bunch of different models of Dyson vacuums. We own the big purple one that picks up pet hair (we have two dogs) and it works great! I love it because it is bagless--I vacuum up everything with it and then just dump the canister and wash it when it gets gunky. It seems like people who purchase Dysons really like them--perhaps the people selling theirs are upgrading. I would just call and ask why they are getting rid of theirs. We have had ours for 2-3 years and have had not problems with it. The biggest drawback is the price--we paid $500 for it. But I think we will have it for years and it was a good investment for our family. Good luck with your decision! C. M
