Hi Moms! Trying to plan a vacation to Northwest Florida for late June/early July. Looking for anywhere from Pensacola to Panama City Beach - Destin/FT Walton, Navarre, etc. (Will most likely be driving from Ohio.)

Has anyone visited that area recently and if so, where did you stay (and do you recommend it, LOL!) Any places you felt were "must sees"? Plan to visit the naval air museum in Pensacola.

Any help appreciated! Thanks moms - can't wait to hear your responses!!! (Looking forward to vacation, can you tell???)

What can I do next?

Destin is a beautiful area. I was there with my family several months ago and the beaches were great. We have stayed at the Sandestin Resort a few times - they have lots of properties in different price ranges. We also went two years ago and had to check out early due to a family emergency back home and the girl at the front desk even refunded our money for the nights that we couldn't stay. We weren't expecting that but it was really nice that they did that for us.

If you are close to Sandestin you definitely need to eat at Acme Oyster House! It's on the resort property but anyone can go there (lots of nice little shops right there too). Their grouper is awesome and so is their gumbo!

Our family whole extended family LOVES that area! My parents, brother, and his family stay at condos in Destin, and my husband and I stay at a condo in Miramar Beach just down from Destin. The whole area is gorgeous. It's such a relaxing place to be. Last summer when we were there we went to the Naval Air Museum on our way home, and it was definitely worth the stop. Have a great vacation!

We live here! We live in Fort Walton Beach :-) We stay in our house ;-) so I can't recommend any hotels. The Blue Angels do their practice flights near the naval museum in Pensacola & on most Wed. are available for autographs after the flights - so check out their website to get the schedule.
The Gulfarium in Ft. Walton/Destin in OK but it's not the best so I wouldn't really spend the money if I were you. Check out this website to see if there is anything going on during the time you will be here: http://www.emeraldcoastfl.com/activities/destin-events/
Hope you guys have a wonderful vacation & if I can answer any other questions just let me know.
Oh - one more thing - all of the local kids are selling these little coupon books & if you can get ahold of one of those it might save you money for food, cruises, and other activities - I'll see if I can get more info for you.

Pensacola Beach is really nice, too! That's where we go when we're on "the coast" to visit. We stayed at the Pelican hotel which is conveniently located to everything (but got a little noisy on Fri & Sat nights). The beaches are beautiful white sand and not very rough waters. Drive down to the far west end to Ft. Pickens (old Civil War fort) and ride the ferry across the Mobile Bay. There's a nice restaurant right on the beach called "Crabs" (we got 'em) that has a fantastic outdoor eating area, complete with a sand playground for the kids and direct access to the beach!
The Naval Air station is pretty cool--you can spend a whole day walking around there!

Have fun, we love visiting our family and staying a couple of days at P'cola Beach!

We LOVE SanDestin and we go there every year for Spring Break.

We stay at the Hilton Golf Resort and Spa... it is SO nice!!

We just enjoy the beaches, chilling out, a couple of places have teen night and our daughter and her friends LOVE that. They shut the place down, bring in off duty police officers, have food and only kids 14-18 are allowed in. to dance and have fun.

Enjoy!!
