Vaccines - Going with a Delayed Schedule

I would like to talk with other moms who have decided to go with a delayed vaccination schedule for their babies. I have done tons of research/reading/interviews and feel this is the best plan for my son. Please note: Delayed vaccination is the topic I want to discuss not reasons I should vaccinate according to the CDC's schedule.

What can I do next?

My son is almost 4 and he still has not had MMR , hepatitis, chicken pox, etc. My ped office always makes me sign a waiver saying "I refused" to have my son vaccinated, but don't push otherwise. There are to many studies that do show possible problems! One of my biggest concerns is giving soooo many vaccines to such a small infant who doesn't have a developed immune system. My husband and I will decide when and if he gets his shots. Thats part of being a parent, making the best decisions for our children.

GO FOR IT! If I had it to do over again, I would do the same thing. Many will try to discourage you, but it is your choice. I'm not anti-all vaccines, as some are, but I think we could administer them in a much, much less risky, more child friendly way. The medical community tries to paint them as COMPLETELY safe, but NOTHING is COMPLETELY anything! You know. Better safe than sorry. These are our kids we're talking about here!

I have chosen to delay vaccinces for my daughter also. I love that you put in your request that you dont want to hear reasons why you "should vaccinate." My daughter just turned 1. I just don't feel comfortable with vaccinating her right now. I took her to the ER this weekend b/c she had a fever. The ER dr. fussed at me for not vaccinating then when they couldn't find anything wrong with my baby her "recommendation" was to follow up with her Dr. on Monday & talk to him & get her vaccinated. I was so mad. Like that would cure the reason for the fever. I could go on & on about it, I am still fuming over the things she said.

I delayed two of my children's vaccines due to food allergies. We ended up delaying Hep B and MMR. We had no problems, and every daycare understood the reasons. I delayed my oldest son's due to lack of insurance, and he had no problems or issues. My oldest daughter got all hers on schedule, and she had no problems. So, all in all, there were no problems either way.

I delayed shortly, but I had my doctor split the MMR into 3 sessions. I did this in NY, but I would imagine you could find a doctor willing to do the same. He gave her mumps, then a few weeks later measles, and then another few weeks rubella. It really eased my mind to know that she wasn't recieving such high levels of mercury all at once. I think it is worth asking. GOod luck!

Bren,

sorry this is going to be quick as I am running out the door!

you may want to talk to some great women at Holistic Mothers Network.....I am a member of the group here in the Triangle area!

They are a non-judgemental group of parents that have many great resources on that very subject!

I have 3 children, my first son and my daughter were both vaccinated as is recommended by the pediatrician. My other son was delayed for a few reasons. This caused no problems and I don't feel like there's anything wrong with parents deciding the right time to vaccinate their children. The only downside I see is that the older they are the more they remember the shots. My son began when he was older so every visit he remembered the one before and was miserable knowing he was going to get more shots. Any decision you make will be the right one for your child!!
