Hello all! I have a question about where to go on vacation. We live in Arlington TN and want to take our 5 and 2 year olds somewhere for fall break. The options are: the beach (Orange Beach maybe), Chattanooga, St. Louis or Branson. I'm kinda weary about going somewhere we have to ride for a long time but will if it gets plenty of good reviews. My husband has been to St. Louis and Branson once and the beach once but other than that none of the rest of us have been to any of them. The weather at the beach in October probably wouldn't be an issue since they aren't big swimmers. We would find a place with an indoor pool just in case.

Thoughts? :-)

Thanks

What can I do next?

Chattanooga! Lookout Mountain is great with awesome views where you can visit Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Incline Railroad, Point Park at the very top. Downtown is fun to explore - the museum, the glass bridge and Walnut Street Bridge is closed to cars so you can take a walk and enjoy the river. There's tons of cute bistro-cafe types of places to eat there for any budget - in and around downtown. We loved eating at the train hotel (we didn't stay there) where they have an actual train the kids can climb all over and pretend they are driving.

Vacations are always a matter of personal preference.
Our preference? The beach! It wins every year. :)
Good luck!

We went to Silver Dollar City in September this last year and it was heaven. The lines were none existent and we had so much fun. We could ride the same ride over and over and over without ever having to get off. We got buy one day full price and get the second day free. It was very affordable.

We chose to not stay at a water park hotel since we were going to be gone all day both days. If we go back and don't do SDC we'll definitely stay at either the Welks or Grand Country for their water parks.

We've gone to the gulf coast of FL the last two Octobers and the weather is perfect! I'm a beach person, so I would always choose that option too. Branson got hit by a tornado a couple years ago and a lot of things didn't rebuild (the outlet malls closed, lots of empty theaters, etc) and the only thing there left that's family friendly is Silver Dollar City. It's fun, but probably not for more than 2 days or so. Look into each place you want to go and find stuff you'd like to do, then pick the place with the most options. Happy travels!

I have a four year old and yes the beach always works. But at this same time a great child friendly property with a children's pool - shallow pool works great for him. With child friendly I mean - a property with a kids club or if there are lots of children's related activities in and around the property it makes for a great vacation.

With a 2 and 5 year old, you can't go wrong with the beach. it will keep them entertained for hours, splashing in the water, collecting treasures, building sand castles.
