Put in the name of the town, and it will tell you if there is anything at all going on on any given day.
Hello-Does anyone know of a website that helps you plan a tedious drive?? From point A to point B when I have no idea what cool things there might be along the way and am SURE there is some site out there that would point out the options. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

fun and detailed
E., I LOVE doing this stuff! We love "off the beaten path" kinds of things to see when we travel!
I would first go to aaa.com and go to the Triptiks area, and then put in the info for the Triptik.
Once you see what's in the area, I would do a few different things:
do a search for [Name of Town] + Official + Visitor, and see what comes up on an official visitor site. E-mail the town or visitors' bureau and ask for info to be sent, if you'd like, or just look at everything online.
I use Roaside America, which someone else mentioned, as well as http://curiousexpeditions.org/ and http://atlasobscura.com/
I also use tripadvisor.com and frommers.com when planning trips, from a local, day trip to a more extensive trip.
Have fun!
If you belong to AAA they have trip planning services. Possibly other clubs do as well. Try contacting local tourist bureaus or chamber of commerce for the cities/towns you see on the map that you'll be driving through - they love to point out their unique sites and share the stories behind them. They will even tell you the best place in town for great food/family friendly stuff to do etc.
If you have AAA then they do a "trip tik"that charts your course and tells you what is on the way. This is what everyone used to do before navigation!
AAA has guide books and you can get a triptik that will plan out your route and will also tell you interesting things to do along the way. Of course you have to be a member, but that is not expensive.
My Dad gets us one whenever we go on a road trip. One caveat- they will take you by the interstate whenever possible. You have to ask specifically to have a route that is not mostly interstate. When we went to Branson, MO from our house, they took us all interstate. We followed the route on the way up, but on the way back, we took the back roads through Arkansas and had a much more fun trip. We stopped at one of the Civil War Battlefields (my boys love to stop at the battle fields).
There are also some really good road atlas' out there. Yes, it is "Old School" but GPS units can only work with the info they have. Give me a good map any day over a GPS unit!
You can also visit the website of the places you are going to pass along the way to see if there are interesting things to do as a little pit stop.
Good Luck, travel safe!
