My daughter is 13 months old and my husband and I would love to take her w/ us on a mini vacation. We live in NH and would love to get away for a couple of days and try to relax. I'd like to go somewhere semi local, i.e. NH, Maine etc... Definitely somewhere we can drive to vs. fly. I haven't attempted the flying thing w/ my daughter yet.... Too stressful! Any recommendations on where to go, places to stay, where to dine?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your recommendations! I have booked a trip to Storyland in North Conway for the 4th weekend. I know it's going to be crazy busy, but that's the only time off my husband can get. It should be gun and we're really excited. Both my sisters are joining us w/ their kids, so I know my daughter will have a blast w/ all her cousins. Thanks again ladies!!!

I've lived in NH most of my life and IMO The North Country is great this time of year. Glen has StoryLand, Jackson has Santa's Village, and they're both great for little ones, plus there are ton's of B&B's or cottages to stay in. Some of my best childhood memories are from the White Mountains and I try to take a drive up with my daughter every year. The drive across the Kancamagus from Conway to Lincoln is gorgeous. If you stop on 93 at any rest stop, all of the pamphlets are at your disposal, and usually the attendants are fairly knowledgeable, especially the farther north you get. If your a AAA member you can also get books on local lodging and restaurants for free. Good luck, and have a great trip.

I haven't personally been, but I'm dying to go to Acadia National Park in Maine. My parents went twice and I have several friends who have gone. Some have stayed in lodges, B&Bs and motels nearby, and some have camped. The photos and descriptions I've seen and heard are outstanding! Great bike riding, scenery, exploration and hiking.

Take her to the biggest city in your area and to the zoo. Both the animals and the huge buildings are fascinating to little ones. Bring her to the public market where she can see all of the fresh produce, fish, and so forth.

It's a beautiful time of year and the city botanical gardens should be full of lovely summer blooms (also an excellent photo op for cute pictures of your daughter in a pretty dress).

You could always do a long weekend in Mt. Pocono PA, it is beautiful, and many of the resorts there are family oriented.

The North Conway area is beautiful in the summer time and there are lots of things to do! We're renting a condo for a week at Attitash, but I'll bet you can find a great rate at a Bed and Breakfast or an Inn in the White Mountains, too.

Mystic CT is a great place for a weekend -- there's a great Aquarium, and the historical seaport is very child friendly. There's just about enough to do for a 3 day weekend without pushing and without feeling like you missed stuff.
