My husband and I took our children's pacifiers away around 15 months old. Now they walk around with their sippee cup in their mouths and suck on the tip which is soft. We only give them heir cups when they request milk or juice but then they sit with it in their mouths. How do we get rid of pacifiers all together?

You could eliminate the sippy cup althogether. My 22 month old son drinks from a regular cup. Either he sits at the table to drink from it, or I will hand it to him and stay with him until he has finished drinking, and then take the cup and put it up so it doesn't spill.
Hope this helps
My kids (3) hardly ever used a sippy cup, only when we were out and about. I gave them cups with straws, and they were not allowed to walk around with it. When practical, they only drank in the kitchen or had me standing around them ready to take the cup away when they stopped drinking. I only remember using the hard type of cups, that might help also.
I give my kids cups when they eat dinner and when they ask for a drink. I take the cup away when they have had their drink. If you make a rule that it doesn't leave the table, then they won't walk around with it. They will drink their fill and when they are full they will get down and go play. Also, unless it is water, it is bad for them to be sipping on calories all day. You will also notice that their appetite grows because they won't be getting liquid calories (most of which have very few nutrients).
Sorry. My son still loves his sippy cups at 3 years old. We do use the hard tipped ones, though. He is just addicted to them. Oh well........it could be worse. He could still be on a bottle . ;)
Take the sippy cups away. Why should they be walking around with them anyway? Use them at the table when they're eating and take them away when they're done. Otherwise you could be playing right into the need for a pacy.
Would you feel better if they put their thumbs in their mouths instead of a pacy? I'm just going on what worked with my own kids. They preferred their blankey edging.
I would change the sippy cup to a hard top sippy cup. It seem that they are using the sippy as a pacifier b/c the texture is the same. See if a new cup will change the behavior. You might only want to change one at a time just in case is doesn't work. Good luck :)
I would either move to a hard tipped sippy cup or transition them to a regular cup. You could also ask them for their cups back when the milk is gone. However, they could figure out that trick and take forever drinking their milk/juice.
