Using Moby D Wrap Through Airport Security?

My daughter and I are becoming frequent flyers. I normally carry her in my arms but I am finding that to become too difficult. I have heard that you may not have to take an infant out of a carrier if it is made of material. I really don't want to have to take off the moby and try to put it back on. Just wondering if anyone has any personal experience. Thanks in advance

I have flown a lot with my son--you have to remove the baby from any carrier every time you go through.

I used my baby sling and they didn't make me take the baby out. It is so much easier....especially with all of the other stuff you have to lug around and get up into the xray. I think that it should be fine if it is all fabric.

Hey A.,
My flight to Hawaii let me keep it on with no problem. My flight back to Texas made me take it off. It just depends on who is at the gate.

It truly depends on the airport, unfortunately. My 16 month old daughter has made 10 round trips by plane, and each has been different in how they handle her. Sometimes they make me carry her through in my arms alone, sometimes let me use the carrier, sometimes make me take off her shoes, some times they let us leave them on, etc. One thing that I have noticed - many security lines will let you go to the front if you are traveling with an infant in a stroller, but make you wait if you have the infant in your arms. Some airports make you wait no matter what, but it is worth a try to use a stroller if you are running late, as we usually are!

I think it depends on the person at security. I've traveled numerous times with my daughter in either a ring sling or a loveseat (a structured buckle carrier). They've always let me leave her in the loveseat. They've had me take her out of the ring sling once or twice (but that was after the metal rings set off the detector and they did give me the option of continuing to hold her but letting them do a wand scan). I'd recommend making sure your daughter either isn't wearing shoes or you can still easily take them off, though!

I LOVE my Ergo (made of fabric and plastic buckles) - wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING, and with our frequent traveling, I've only ever had -one- security employee ask me to take my daughter off.

I'm not really familiar with the Moby, but if there is no metal, I suspect it'll "fly." :-D

Happy Travels!

Hi A.
We travel all the time and they always insist I take my kids out of any type of carrier when going through security.

I carry my 9 month old in a sling (by Hotslings) as it dose not have any rings or buckles - it is just fabric. I used to have a maya wrap (a sling with the big rings) but I find the hotsling much more comfortable and convienent (it fold up really small and flat ant fits in a small diaper bag)

Hi, don't know about a Moby wrap, but we used slings for our twins and yes, we had to take them of to go through security - afterall, there could be anything in there with your little one!

As others have said, I think it will vary depending on the person working at security. I carry my son in an all-fabric mei tai. Sometimes they've wanted me to take him out, and other times they haven't.

My friend just flew home with her baby in a moby wrap, and she didn't have to take him out.

I have travelled a lot with my son, now 2 years old. For me it is really a lot more convenient just to travel with his stroller, which I just give at the door of the plane to the airline personnel and then they have it ready as soon as I come out of the plane.

I guess that if you travel with an umbrella stroller you could bring it inside with you.

It does not matter what you choose, at security point they will make you take everything off and you have to carry your baby without anything/ anyone to help you.

Good luck!

Not sure about the Mody specifically, but I just travelled with my 8 month old and used a Bjorn, TSA made me take her out of the Bjorn to go through the check point and then I had to figure out a way to get her back in with my hands full, not FUN. Hope you have better luck.

Hello there! My baby and I are also frequent fliers. I put him in a sling and they have NEVER asked me to remove him or the sling. It makes going through security a snap! No worries! Have fun on your trip!

I just traveled to Atlanta, GA this past weekend with my husband and 5 month old son. I carried him in a Baby Bjorn and went right thru security without having to take him out of it and put back on at both airports. Hope this helps!

I ran into this issue the last time I flew and I can tell you that no matter what you will have to take her out of the carrier. 911 has changed so many things that they just can't be to cautious. However I would try a sling with her they are really easy to get on and off and she isn't to big yet for it.

I don't have any personal experience about your question, but try calling the airline and asking them directly.

Hi A.,

Although I've never tried to go through security with my daughter in my Moby, I assume that they'll make you take her out and take it off since they make us take jackets and sweaters off. I hope I'm wrong though! Good luck.

A. I just read your message and I hate to say this. I'm a flight atendent and you have to take her out!!! I know this is a major pain but as the always say rule are rules. I went through the same this when I was bringing my little man with us to fly. I just wish that I had better advise for you.

When I have flown with my kids in a sling (which is just fabric) the child had to be taken out. They treated the sling as if it were a "coat" and they make you take your coat off.

A pain. Yes.

the 4-5 airports that I have been in they made me take my son out of the moby. It probably depends on the airport & the person doing the security, but I have been in IAH, DWF, SLC,Denver & a small one in IL.

I work at the airport (TSA) and know that it would be easlier to use your wrap. You will not have to remove her.

I wore a Sutemi pack with my daughter through airport security without any problems. A Sutemi is a more structured soft carrier with buckles. I would think a Moby Wrap would be even better.

Now you probably know this already but they won't let you wear your daughter in the carrier during takeoff and landing (since carriers aren't FAA tested and approved), so you will have to take her out for those portions of the flight.
