We have a TON. What can we do with them or where can we get rid of them?

So What Happened?

I'm so glad I asked! You all have so many wonderful ideas.

If you have any other ideas, keep them coming. I probably have enough to do a few projects!

I used to take all my sons crayons stubs and melt them down into well greased (think spray Pam) muffin tins. Made great chunky, multi colour crayons for re-use.

Have fun!

You can get molds & make new crayons. Crayola also has a crayon maker that you can use old crayons in: http://crayolastore.com/product_detail.asp?T1=CRA+03-9007...=

Maybe make them usable gain & then donate them. I'm sure no one wants an inch long, dull crayon.

Like another person said...melt them in muffin tins. But I suggest going to the dollar store and getting cheap, basically disposible new tins...Spray alot of PAM in them...and melt them and let them cool well before popping them out.

I do this all the time for my daycare kids and they LOVE them. They love the multi colored fun-ness of them and the toddlers pick them up like chunky rocks to color with!

Get an old wine bottle and melt them down - dripping it on the side and use it as a decoration or a candle holder - maybe giving them for Christmas gifts?

Donate to pre-school, church or homeless shelter.

Go to Micheal's get candle wicks and take like colors and melt them down to make a home made candle...

Do you camp or have a fire place? My mom would use them for fire-starters, you need cardboard egg cartons, tear the top off and place under the bottom. Melt the crayons, and pour into the carton. When you are starting a fire, rip off one or two, place near the bottom with the kindling etc, light the cardboard. No need for newspaper. Works well even when its damp.

A friend of mine melted them down and did a fundraiser for a charity they support. They wrapped them up with a cute bow and sold them for $2 each and raised a TON! They were adorable. Chunky molds that made fat crayons perfect for chubby handed 2 year olds. (2 year olds have trouble holding skinny crayons).

You can always melt them down and use them for gifts for kids. They love them! I've done that, donated to schools, church. After school programs, parks and recreation. Anyplace that will take them, Dr's office, etc.
