Used Breast Pump and Supplies

I have a used Medela breast pump and oodles of accessories that I'm done using. Where do I go about finding a home for them without sending them to the landfill? It's not a new pump, so no new mother would want it. Thanks for the suggestions, in advance!

What can I do next?

Find someone you know who needs it or put it up on CraigsList. They say not to reuse pumps but those tubes are SO long that I can't imagine how anyone would manage to get milk up into the machine itself, you'd have to be really TRYING. The tubes and stuff that actually touch the milk can be gotten for around $50 online or one of those stores they have at the hospital. I had to throw out my actual pump - I got mine second hand and by the time I was done with it it was on its last leg - but I gave an unopened package of accessories to one friend and another VERY close friend took the ones I'd be using (I hadn't used them for long so they were in really good shape).

you absolutely can sell it on ebay or give it to someone. there are lots of new moms that dont have hundreds to spend on a new one and would take it and sterilize the parts or get new parts. try ebay, freecycle, craigs list, or contact your local womens shelter. it might be a real blessing to someone. i bet you could contact la leche or your local wic office too.

sell it! I bought mine used! I couldnt afford the 350 for a new one, I pd 100 for a perfectly good used one and just bought new shields for it! If you want to donate it find a pregnancy counseling place, or abortion alternative place. If they dont take the donation they will proly be able to tell you who would.

Freecycle if you're willing to just give it away or Craigslist. There's nothing wrong with a used pump. You can buy replacement parts pretty cheap & still have a great pump. But, if you really don't want to give it to someone else, recycle. I assume it's plastic.

List in on CraigsList. I got a second had Medela pump off of there. I was a new mom and I didn't care that it was a used pump. I bought new tubes and accessories from the hospital for $50. It was well worth it to me since I couldn't afford a brand new pump. If you don't want people coming to your home to pick it up, just plan to meet them in a parking lot of a McD's or a mall. You'll probably make a new mom extremely happy.

Kim- Thanks for sharing that web-site. I was unaware of it. I can not legally tell you to sell a used pump as it has to do with my career, because we advocate not buying used ones; but if you throw it on Craig's List, I tell you it will be gone in less than 24 hours.... That is the "Go Green" mom side of me...
