I am 34 weeks pregnant and would like to find a new OB in the clearwater area. I would prefer one that will deliver at Mease Countryside, but I am willing to go to Morton Plant. I now go to Wolff, Patal, Marks, & Llewellyn. I have been having a horrible experience with them. I do not like the doctors or the staff, they are all very impersonal. I am looking for a doctor that is friendly and personal in addition to being a great doctor. My insurance does not cover Bay Area Women's Care nor Contemporary Women's Care. Someone did recommend Loius Poalillo. Anyone know anything about him??? Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I finally got an appointment with Dr. Gallagher. It took a little convincing with them since they usually will not accept a patient transfer after 30 weeks. Thanks so much for all the referals it was extremely helpful. I am very excited to to do a doctor that is not a big group. I did not like having to see a different doctor everytime I had an appointment. Plus it seems that all have different opinions on care...very fustrating!!

I noticed some people recommeding Dr. Vendeland, I was going there until recently. I hated the only mid-wife left in the office. Dr. Vendeland is great! She is located in Palm Harbor. She use to have two mid-wifes but one quit, probably because Kathy (the other mid-wife is the devil). The receptionist are very rude and refuse to schedule you with only Dr. Vedeland. Beware if you go there, Kathy is the devil, and I would not trust her to deliver my baby, in fact, I wouldnt even trust her to deliver cats babies, if my cats weren't fixed.

A midwife's touch (www.amidwifestouch.com) is a wonderful office with the choice of midwives or OBs. They deliver at Mease Dunedin and Helen Ellis in Tarpon, possibly at Mease Countryside, I'm not certain since that is new to having a L&D wing. They delivered all of my babies and I love them dearly, never any problems.

I switched doctors at 30 weeks. But I changed from Bay Area Women's Care to Labor of Love in Dunedin. It was a AWESOME experience. The relationship you will have with the entire office staff will be far better than anyone you could get at the typical doctors office. They all actually know you and your family! The only draw back is that it is 100% natural child birth. No epidural. So if your set on an epidural this would not be the place for you. I had my first at Morton Plant in Clearwater and it was a WONDERFUL experience. I did get an epidural. This time I really wanted to go natural. I was sceptical and nervous, but the experience was even better than the last and better than I could have ever imagined. It was nice not having all those doctors and nurses controling everthing. It was all in my hands. Very peaceful and relaxing. My recovery was 100% easier and faster than my first. I feel that it was due to the lack of drugs in my system. At least check out the Labor of Love. ###-###-#### or laborluv.com. By the way we named our little girl R. :). Good luck with your switch...R.

I would highly recommend my doctor, James Gallagher. He is located at Tampa Road, the office phone number is 786-8678/Associates in Birth & Gynecology. This is not a large practice and I think very personable. Why don't you give his office a call, I think you will like him. He is very nice, listens, and is most profesional. Good luck!

PS I am the mother of three kids, I know how you feel.

You might want to try Dr Lerner and associates. I have had two kids with them and they were WONDERFUL!! Everyone in the office are very happy and friendly. I had DR Marcelli. She was the best.

They only go through Morton Plant, I highly recommend that hospital as well.

I have been going to Rosewater Lerner and Associates for about 8 years and they are great. Dr. Lerner delivered my son 1-1/2 years ago and it was a smooth experience. They are located at 508 Jeffors St #c, clearwater ###-###-####, but they also have an office in eastlake and one in Carillon. I believe they do deliver at Mease as well since they have their office out there, but I delivered at Morton Plant which has a really wonderful women's center. Best of luck to you.

If you're looking for an OB, my doctor was fantastic. James Gallagher, located at Tampa Road and McMullen Booth. ###-###-####.

I had to switch docs, too. He is straight forward. Does evening appointments so hubby can tag along. Staff is friendly.

He delivers at Mease Countryside. I went into labor on Sunday afternoon and he stayed the night just in case, even though I didn't deliver until Monday night.

A good doctor and a nice guy.

Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your physician woes. I actually just found out I'm pregnant with my second child and I'm fairly new to the area. I've contacted Wolff, Patal, Marks & Llewellyn and did not like the impersonal vibe I got from them. After alot of called around and numerous referral I was told to contact Dr. Perez. His is on US 19 between curlew and tampa rd ###-###-####. He delivers at Mease Countryside. He comes very highly recommended by my co-workers but unfortunately I haven't seen him yet so I couldn't tell you first-hand. I hope you find a great OB..Good Luck

Hey R.,
I delivered my daughter with Dr. Paolillo in 1995. He and his midwife, Donna, are both wonderful. If you are looking for someone that will talk with you though, I don't think it's Dr. P...he is very simple and gets the job done. My last baby was delivered by Dr. Lerner and Dr. McCance, they are next door to Bay Area..if you want someone who will spend more time, I would recommend Dr. Georgette McCance (she is a partner with this practice), or even Dr. Susan Marcelli and Dr. Diana Conner who are both newer physicians with this practice and are all so sweet. I know them all well, I was a nurse in their practice for 7 years!! Their # is ###-###-#### if you want to give them a call. The front office staff there leaves a little to be desired, but if you want to ask for Kiki or Tina and let them know that K. Tomlinson referred you, you should have no issues! Their office manager is one of the MDs wives, her name is Melissa Rudolph.
Good luck,
K.
