If it were me, I would take her. If you are pumping her full of fluids and she's not peeing, that can be dangerous. Listen to the doctor on this one, better safe than sorry.
Okay, my 5 year old has been saying she has a stomach ache since Wedneday. She barely eats, which this is a child that I have to say no more snacks. She is drinking water and milk, that is all she drinks. Friday, she peed once the whole day! She has had diarrhea a few times but a normal one too since then.
I took her to the doctor today because she has not gone to the bathroom since 6:30 last night, so 13 hours ago! She tried to pee in cup but couldn't but did have diarrhea at doc office. Doc sent us home with cup to pee in just in case she was nervous but said if she has not pee by 3 today take her to childrens hospital, that she may have a kidney infection!
Oh and once my daughter heard hospital she cried and cried and my doc said she is not dehydrated since she has so many tears.
Question is do I take her in right away, or is doc over reacting!? So confused!
Well, at 2:30 she finally went and it was so dark. We took it to doc and they tested it which resulted in her having blood drawn. No bladder infection but white blood cell high and some test taken because some counts in the liver where not normal. Get results back tomorrow, wish us luck!!!
If it were me, I would take her. If you are pumping her full of fluids and she's not peeing, that can be dangerous. Listen to the doctor on this one, better safe than sorry.
I'd take her in and consider switching doctors if I were you, what a jerk. A simple blood test at the office would have cleared all this up. Yeah, if I were you I'd have her looked at today.
Sounds to me like something is abnormal. Its been 6 days and nothing is getting better right? Its time to see if something is wrong.
I am so sorry to hear that your daughter is sick. It must be difficult to see her like this.
This site isn't the best place to ask medical opinions, since we are not trained medical professionals. You've been to the doctor and she's given you very sound advice. (That's what doctors are for, after all!) I would listen to the doctor, and do exactly what she's told you to do, and NOT follow any medical advice you receive here. Again, we're not professionals and cannot diagnose your little one.
I do hope your daughter feels better soon!
Nope. IF ANYTHING doc is sugarcoating what is possibly wrong to not freak you out. Because, in all likelyhood, it's nothing (stomach virus), but it could be a short list of several VERY serious things (kidney infection only being one of them), that can only be tested for in the hospital.
I'm sure her blood pressure/ HR/ etc were in normal range or he'd have sent you immediately. So don't freak out but DO go to the Children's Hospital at 3 or if the symptoms worsen at any point prior.
Megan is exactly right!! Listen to your doctor.
But probably the reason the doc had you wait is that if she does pee in the cup for you , you can take it back to the doctors office and they can do a urinalysis there in the office and see if it's a UTI. If she doesn't pee then she's probably getting dehydrated and you will need to go to the ER for IV hydration and possibly a catheter to collect some urine. You cannot tell if it's a UTI from a blood test, you need urine to test. And your doc was totally right about the tears part. If she were dehydrated, she wouldn't have excess fluid in the form of tears. Some kids will refuse to pee in a cup no matter how bad they have to go. Good Luck!!
Sounds like maybe she has a UTI... do like your PED said and take her to the hospital if she hasn't peed by 3... UTI can be easily treated, but can get very serious if you let it go.
Kidney infections are nothing to mess with. I would take her in. Hopefully it has not progressed to that stage - has she said if it hurts her to go pee? Maybe it is just a bladder infection. Hopefully you can get it taken care of before it gets too serious.
Listen to your doctor ... a trip to the ER is never wasted in my opinion ... even there is nothing "wrong with her" it is best she is checked out.
The doctor isn't reacting at all. Not sure what he's waiting for??? I would just take her now-you will be with her the whole time-they will take good care of her and know all the tricks to calm a frightened child.
.
I would follow the doctor's advice.
First of all, I don't know any kid who had an easy time peeing in a cup. Especially at the doctor's office.
Your doctor isn't over-reacting or under-reacting in my opinion.
If you can't get her to pee by 3, take her to the hospital.
Not peeing since last night sounds serious. I wouldn't wait, take her in now.
Follow your gut. If it says take her to the hosp then take her. When it comes to her not going potty I would def take her.
Not being able to pee is scary and can be serious. I would take her in and not wait.
Take her now. What are the chances everything is going to be normal in 2 hours after all this time? HOPEFULLY they will just need to give her something and she will be back home today & feeling MUCH better. I wouldn't wait any longer though....no benefit to doing so. Sooner you get her there, the sooner you get her back home!
What does your "mommy gut" tell you? If she hasnt been feeling well since last week I would personally take her to children's, the not using the restroom is scary.
Scary stuff.
How much time til 3:00 where you are? If it's 2 or 3 hours I would go to the hospital.
I also think it's a bit irresponsible of your pediatrician to pawn this off to another doc somewhere else.
If you are scared & concerned---go. Better safe than sorry, right?
A few hours won't make a differnece - take her now and get it over with. Bring some crafts, crayons, lollypops to ease the situation. And if you have a children's hospital nearby, go there.
My 4 year old did that back in February, he was still 3. He peed brown uring (blood) in the morning and then I took him to the doctor and he couldn't pee. They did a catheter on him and terrorized him, and when even that got nothing they sent me home with a cup and said if he didn't go by 4 to take him to the ER. HA! I went straight there and found out he DID have a kidney infection. I wouldn't play with that. I would take her in now.
If you think she's sick, take her in.
Yes, take her right away. Doctors don't usually over react onless their is something to react to. Kidney infections happen in children, however, will definetly need a hospital visit to be treated right away. It is good that she is not dehydrated. With Kidney/bladder infections, she will need to be put on antibiotics.
Wishing your daughter health. Let us know how things go! Get better soon!
I'd take her in but i'm paranoid
