Upgrading My Wedding Rng Diamond

Hello Mamas:

I realize that this question may sound frivolous to some of you...but here goes anyway :)

My 40th birthday is right around the corner and our 15th wedding anniverary is the next day (April 13th & 14th), my hubby and I discussed having a nice sized party, with the evening dress and cocktails at a nice place...however, after giving it much thought, I have decided that I would rather forgo the large party and put that money towards a bigger diamond on my wedding ring (I know - how shallow, but honestly, it's my dream come true!)...My question is (and forgive my ignorace in this matter)...how do I go about this? Do I just go to any ordinary jewelry store or is there a specific type I should look for? How do I know I will get a good price on my current diamond? And lastly, can anyone recommend anyone in SoCal that I can go to?

I'd love to hear some thoughts and/or input on this matter? Thanks mamas!

M.

PS - the party would be for me...my hubby is thrilled that I would rather have a larger diamond as he isn't necessarily thrilled by the idea of the party :) and the ring idea was his...

What can I do next?

Easy. Go to a nice jewelery store (not one in a mall) and start looking at diamonds, fun, fun! You can find one anywhere and take it to the place you bought your setting and have them mount it, or you can have the place you buy the diamond from mount it, easy!

Congrats and good choice!

I would have went with the bigger diamond too!

~I do not know about how much you will get for your old diamond but just a thought, do you have a daughter? I have decide if I ever get an upgrade I am going to put my original diamond in a piece of jewelery for my daughter for a special occasion, big birthday, college or HS graduation, first baby...who knows? But that way she will have a piece of her parents love with her, for forever and always!

My mom has a trusted jeweler in downtown LA at least you could get an idea of what your trade in value would be and what you are interested in getting. Chain stores & even the jewelry exchange dont offer great quality. If you message me ( so I can easily find you) I will reply with the info, I would have to call her for it.

Hey, you're turning 40 and you've been married since you were 25 -- you deserve a bigger stone if you want one! I'm frugal and don't wear much jewelry, so if I buy something, it has to be somewhat substantial/significant. Thus, I recommend going to the downtown LA jewelry mart (around Hill St.) and looking through the various vendors' cases to see if anything jumps out at you (or if you happen to like any particular seller who seems kind and trustworthy to you). The only problem with the downtown jewelry district is that there are soooo many sellers that it can be overwhelming. My DH and I have bought several items, including custom-made rings, from a particular seller in the St. Vincent Jewelry Mart (and we have referred many friends to this seller), and have had great experiences each time. If you'd like her information, please send me a private message and I'll let you know. Best wishes!

We did this for my 10 year anniversary. I kept my old wedding set and we bought a whole new set at Robbins brothers. Now if I want to upgrade this diamond (which I will in 10 years) then I can go back and only need to pay the difference between what I paid for my old diamond and the new diamond. Try them. My hubby did a lot of research and they had pretty good quality and good prices.
