Jackson is on Nutrimigen, which a lot of you asked. It works well for him. He doesnt scream a lot, he has fits maybe once every two weeks where hes screaming in pain for maybe 30 mins, but hes never been a fussy one. very happy baby. He also sleeps through the night. We haven't elevated his bed at all- and since he was 2 months old he sleeps 10 hours a night, sometimes 12! So hes happy and sleeps well, he just spits up often, and sometimes will have trouble getting a bottle down. I do put rice cereal in his bottles to make them a little thicker, and it does help keep it down. Your responses do have me concerned though about giving him medication at all. Maybe I will try the home remedies and see what happens when I take him off? I am definitely going to have my doc refer me to a GI specialist.

What can I do next?

Hey M.,

My son developed reflux at a young age as well. However, I put him on Zantac and it didn't do a thing. Most of the time he wasn't a fussy baby, he just spit up all the time, especially right after he ate. And most of the time he spit up on us both. But as he got older it got better, and after he turned one, he outgrew it. If it gets to the point where he is losing weight then I would see a specialist, but if he just does it, I wouldn't put him through all of the tests they will want to do. Austin is 7 now, and he doesn't have any problems with reflux now.

PS I really don't think it matters with the formula the cereal or the food, I think some kids just do this.

I had a friend who's little boy had reflux. She met a chiropractor at her church who knew of a chiropractic treatment that he suggested she try. This was when the baby was about 7 months old. She took him to this chiropractor for several treatments and said she noticed a huge difference. She said he would spit up 30-40 times per day and after just the first treament it was around 10. He did have to keep going and they recently moved so I have not been in touch with her to see if things kept improving. Hope this helps!

I have a friend whose son also had a lot of problems with reflux. She swears by the Dr. Brown brand bottles and says they really do make a difference. you might also have him tested for allergies if you haven't already. The same friend's son is also allergic to milk protein. He can't have milk or cheese or anything except in small amounts and he has to have a carb (bread) with it. Hope this helps.

M.,
I was one of the responses about trying to not give him medications. I didn't know that he was screaming with this. It may burn and I didn't realize that he couldn't keep food down. I didn't know how bad it was. I would try to NOT give a small child meds, however, only you know how bad it is and if it is that bad, I have no problem with giving a baby meds. I assumed it was a spit up thing...not a burning, throwing up type where he is so uncomfortable that he screams and can't sleep. Honey.... go for it. If it makes him feel better and it helps, give it to him.
Sorry that I didn't understand the entire problem.
