it can take months of tracking your cycle to figure that out without one of those kits.
I was able to figure mine out when we were trying for our daughter 6 years ago. I started tracking in Jan 01 (my ovulation cycle was about 12-16 days before my period.)
We started trying after the pill was out of my system and I had 30 days of prenatal vitamins. So that put us at begining to try in A. 01. I got pregnant in May 01 on the exact weekend I knew I would be ovulating. My due date never changed.
fyi -- do what the other moms said (website -- strips) -- it sounds a lot easier than what i did:)
i'd always heard (read) the 7 to 14 days idea after your last period (try every other day and so forth) & i always had no idea when i was actually ovulating.
Then I figured -- i could chart it (temperature) but i would become busy....... I was about to buy the "strips" and so forth; however, i had a friend who told me -- relax! red wine!
Before becoming "too obsessed" about it....i relaxed -- drank red wine --and focused the complete opposite on the days i was focusing (a George Castanza move -- Seinfeld).
i focused on the time right before my next period (i am a really really late ovulator according to my dr.)
Two days before my next period -- VIOLA -- i timed my 3rd child to the day (you ovulate for 48 hrs only -- amazing we have so many children in the world).
good luck!
Here a few links that might help you find your most fertile time.

I wish you the best of luck! And send some prayers for you too.
start trying around Aug 8th...
If your a 28 day cycler. you wil probably ovulate on the 1st Aug-5.
You can also go to ovulationpredecter.com. Its a reall cool site.
Sounds sort of like what I went through with our second. Keep a good calendar of when you start your periods. I think Ovulation happens about 12-14 days prior to beginning a new cycle. So you need to have an idea of how long your cycle is. Also, talk with your Dr. If you already have any kids, taking your temp daily before you get up is a pain in the *** and pretty much impossible. But they can give you other tips about how to tell (difference in mucous, etc). Also, there are drugs you can take (Clomid for ex) that cause ovulation so you will know exactly when you do. But there are risks like everything else (multiples being one risk), so talk to your doc at length before you go that route.
Check out the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It's awesome. No woman ovulates at the same time as another. We are all different and this book tells you what to look for so you'll know exactly when you are. We used it as birth control, but it's also used for women who want to get preg.
God Bless,

Hello!
There are several ways to tell when you "should" ovulate. There are ovulation calendars, where you enter how long your cycle is, etc. Here is the link:

I used the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"...here is a link to the website:

Hopefully, one of these will help.
Good luck!!

Hi A.,
I was wondering the same thing-the ovulation thing as we are trying once more. I joined the what to expect when expecting website and they have calculations thing for that. I am not sure how accurate it is but I plan on using it.
I also think that the parents website has one as well.
Good luck with everything and I hope this helps
New mom

Usually around 2 weeks after onset of period.

YOu should ovulate 14 days before you start your next period. If your cycles are consistently 28 days apart then you would ovulate on August 13th. If they are 29 days, 14th and so on. I always thought you ovulated 14 days after the beginning of the new period, but I recently discovered that it is the other way. The hormone spike when you ovulate is what causes you to start your period two weeks later. The best thing to do is relax and not stress over getting pregnant. I tried for five years for my first. It happened the month my husband and I were dealing with issues related to a car accident we had and trying to get his father in a nursing home several states away. We were not focused on "Oh, I should be ovulating" and counting the days. The second one, I was on the pill...
No one can really tell you when you ovulate because every woman is different. I ovulate on different days than whats considered "normal". Try googling "how to tell when you ovulate" you can probably find a lot of good info to help you determine for yourself. One thing that relly helped me was a website called MyMonthlyCycles.com. I use it to keep track of my periods (I'm irregular) and ovulation. And it sends you an email in advance to remind you that you are about to get your period, or when you're fertile. All in all, I love the website. Good luck!
the days could vary for a while and that would be hard to say since you don't the same amount of days in all months. the best i could say is write the date down on a calendar in your home and then keep track between that date and the next time. it also depends on if you've recently had a child prior to this incident . your body may need time to straighten itself out. sometimes to have your doctor put you on some type of birth control could help to regulate your periods. i have been through that before but after my first child was born we found out that i became allergic to birth control.
12 days from start date. so, if it was July 31, you should start ovulating Aug 11. if i were you i would buy ovulation test strips and start testing on the 13th day. Some women ovulate later than others. Some as late as day 18. Hope this helps....
