Went on vacation and forgot makeup wipes to take off water proof mascara. The hotel salon gave us baby oil and gauze pads. It works:)
I was browsing around Pinterest, and saw a thing saying that rinsing your hair once a week with diluted apple cider vinegar will make it shinier and healthier. Not one to just jump right on something I see on the internet, I checked it out with some different resources and decided to give it a try. I am currently on week 3 of doing this (on my DD's hair too...) and have definitely seen a difference. My hair is less frizzy, and my daughter's hair has become super-duper shiny. :) I mentioned it to a friend, who apparently already knew this trick and thought that everyone knew about it.
Sooo... Does anyone else know any good non-traditional self-care/beauty tips?
Julie- I do 1/2 and 1/2... I shampoo as normal, then saturate my hair in the vinegar mix and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then I rinse really well. I don't use conditioner on the days I do vinegar.

I have heard the apple cider vinegar is good for hair, but I always use beer. It gets rid of build-up and leave my hair shiny and full. I have a great exfoliator I make out of white sugar, honey, olive oil, and tea tree oil. You can leave it in the shower in a plastic container and it doesn't go sour. Better than anything you can buy!
Coconut oil is better than any store bought moisturizer.
Vinegar (plus water) is great for your hair!

When I use vinegar for hair I first wash my hair, then use 1/4 cup vinegar add in 1 3/4 cups water and pour it over my scalp/hair.
I squeeze excess from my hair, towel dry then let it air dry (I don't rinse the vinegar out).
Once the hair is dry there is no vinegar smell and it's really shiny.
So what is the ratio of vinegar to water? My daughter has thick coarse naturally wavy/curly hair like me and she is so frustrated with frizzies. Do you think this would help?
For great skin, moisturize from within. Stay hydrated, and eat good fats (olive oil, avocado, nuts, butter etc).
Best,

Wow! Just tried the vinegar rinse---awesome!!!!
(Just when I was ready for a No. 2 Buzz!)
Lol JC--I used baby oil for make up remover 35 years ago!
I stopped using shampoo. I use it maybe once a month if I feel the need. I use regular Dove or Pantene conditioner. I use it, rub it in well, rinse, then condition again, rinse. It works so well. I never thought my hair would be clean, I thought it would be greasy and flat but it works so very very well.
I've heard great things about the "No poo (no shampoo)" method for hair. You use baking soda and vinegar instead of shampoo. I'm thinking of trying it.
For me, coconut oil is the best moisturizer I've ever found. It smells good, shrinks pores, and makes breakouts disappear. I love it. It's also a great eye makeup remover.
Not a hair thing, but I have pretty sensitive skin on my legs and hate shaving. I found that if I give my legs a good, hard scrub with a soapy old washcloth (something a bit rough and threadbare, not something plush) before I shave, they are a bit desensitized and the shaving isn't so bad, less razor rash too.
ETA - I've used baby oil to remove eye make up for 30 years!!!
mayonnaise and avocado pureed makes a great hair moisturizer....
For swimmers (which I was in high school and college) this (vinegar) is a GREAT way to keep your hair from turning green and getting dry from the chlorine.
