First impressions are very important when applying for a job, even if you will be wearing scrubs on the job. Bring something to change into before you stop, it doesn’t have to be a suit but you should look professional.
I was thinking about leaving a little early today to go apply to some of the nursing homes in my area on my way to clinical. But if I do it on my way... I would have to be wearing my scrubs and not nicer clothing I would normally wear when applying for jobs.
Do you think they would look at me any different wearing scrubs than nice clothes?
The only other time I would have to go would be weekends. I have my kids in the mornings, they to go school at noon then I get ready for my clinical and head out of the house around 1 and don't get home until 10pm. I don't have a sitter for my kids in the mornings to go earlier than normal.
Unless I change in a convenient store bathroom I would have no place I could change as the town I'm going to is on my way to school opposite than home... I wouldn't have time to run home.
Do you think it would be ok... or should I wait until the weekends?
yes I have to apply in person, not online.
I did talk to them yesterday on the phone to be sure I was far enough in my clinicals to be able to be hired since I haven't taken my state test yet and they told me just to come in on my way to clinical. But who's to say I get the same person I talked to on the phone will be the same person I would get when I walk in.. that's why I was wondering.

I vote changing in a bathroom into something more "professional." Worse case I'd wear the scrubs but I'd be worried it would leave a negative impression because they'd know you were hoping jobs so to speak pretty blatantly.
I asked my sister who is on the hiring committee for a hospital here and she said she thinks it depends on the position but proper clothes always make a better impression on her and the team hiring. She pointed out that there aren't as many jobs as people applying and any edge over the competition is advisable.
So I'd change in the restroom at the convenient store.
Scrubs are appropriate for the job in which you are applying. I am a Nurse Manager and would not bat an eye with you coming in scrubs. Even for the interview. I did have a problem with the RN who came to interview in a tube top and shorts!
I think scrubs are just fine. Just be sure they are pressed, your shoes are clean, and your hair/makeup/etc. is nice.
Scrubs are what you'll be wearing on the job. I think it's important for them to see that you're taking your training seriously.
Good luck!
The fact that you are questioning it is a good sign that it is unprofessional. I had a mark that I would put on applications that I handed out that would remind me when I received it back what the impression was. It was a simple highlighter mark in the corner
Yellow: Great impression
Orange: Good
Blue: Questionable
Pink: Horrible
I would give you a blue - I would think you already have a job and question why are you looking/applying at others. I would wonder if you took your current position seriously and would you take this one seriously or not. Honestly, I also ask questions when handing out an application, I never blindly gave one out. I would ask their name, why here and what they were currently doing. Jot it all down and make my mark on the application, they had no clue why but it was all part of my hiring process.
I agree with Tracy. I think it would make you more of a person and approachable to whomever you may talk to. Of course if called for an interview, you would want to dress nicely, but to apply I see nothing wrong with the scrubs.
I think it will be fine. You are wearing your uniform and the job you are applying for is also a place where you'd wear this same uniform.
Tell them that you would have liked to been dressed up when you came, but changing after work was problematic, and you hope that they don't mind your professional uniform while interviewing.
(Call it your "professional uniform". That turns a possible negative into a positive.)
Good luck!

Make sure the scrubs are not wrinkled and clean. I think it would show that you are ready and able to do the job.
I think in this case scrubs are fine... but don't these places have online applications?
In the nursing profession, scrubs are fine to wear when just filling out an application, however, wear a suit for the interview
HR is available usually just during normal business hours. While scrubs are okay, changing into nicer clothing would be optimal. Any public place will do in a pinch!
In this case, I think scrubs are fine. As a matter of fact, it may help. You will be seen as experienced and not evaluated on what kind of purse you are carrying. Often, the person at the front desk is the gatekeeper to whether or not you even get to fill out an app. If you come in scrubs, you will be recieved as a peer and more likely to be on even footing.
In my office, we evaluate people in the 1st 30 seconds of walking in the door. If you look too nice, girls get intimidated and they approach you with caution. If you don't look nice enough or have even one thing off, you get written off. We had one chick turned away at the front desk because the receptionist didn't like her nails! I think going in scrubs neautralizes all that.
I think it would be best to apply in nicer clothes. It shows that you put some thought and planned it, not just stopped in on the way to clinicals.
If you are just picking up an application, yes.
You should change clothes, even if it means going into a Taco Bell bathroom and doing it.
Now, unless the job you are applying for would require scrubs, so long as your are nice and fresh smelling and wrinkle free, then by all means that sounds fine!
I think its okay. Its the one profession you can get away with this. However, it does depend who you are going to have contact with. If its the person who does the hiring, then it may be worth a change. But whatever you do make sure your hair and makeup look nice.
Does the job require applying in person?
I guess I'm old school. I think you should present a professional visual of yourself when applying for any job, in any field. This is your first impression, to an employer. Not taking the time to dress your best could work against you. Would you pick up a gym job application in a sports bra & tight yoga pants, sneakers & greasy hair? Of course not. Same thing applies here.
If you are just picking up applications or dropping them off, scrubs should be fine. When you go for the interview, I'd dress up.
I think it would be fine to wear scrubs - that is in keeping with the employment you are seeking so I doubt they would look at you funny.
I think they would look at you funnier (is that a word?) if you were trying to apply for work on a weekend.
