My 27 year old daughter called and asked me for advice on how to set boundaries for her hard headed stubborn son who is exactly like she was. Made me SOOOO proud of her, and also so warm inside that she asked ME how to do it.
It was a fairly typical morning at our house. My 14 yo daughter skipping through songs on my iPod while we're getting ready, my 16 yo son jumping in the shower 10 minutes before leaving the house, it was just a regular busy morning getting ready for school and work. Just before leaving, I get the "bye mom, love you!" from both - love that.
When I go out to my car, written on the windshield is "Bye Mom. Love Isaac & Abby". Granted, pretty sure Isaac initially wiped out her name as there was a large blank cleared area and her name written smaller underneath - which made it sooo "them".
Anyway, it just made me smile and laugh. What unexpected moments have you gotten from your kids lately?

just last night: my Mom called to tell me that her companion/fella/best friend for the last 25+ years.....had passed away. Mom was heartbroken, & since I live 2 1/2 hours away....all I could do was listen to her cry & cry with her.
She called on my landline. I grabbed my cell & texted the news to my Sister (with Mom's approval). Then I walked into my older son's bedroom. He read the text & immediately asked if Granny was okay. I shook my head "no", & he knew that she needed someone with her.
My hardass, tattoo'd son shut down his computer....& packed a bag. He drove into the city, picked up flowers & her favorite DingDongs.....& spent the night with his Gma. I am soooooo danged proud of him. :) He knew that my sis & I were tied up with closing on my Dad's estate....& he stepped up to the plate for us. (sigh)
My 5 y/o likes to vouch his love for me. He said to me the other day, "Mom, I'll love you even when you're dead!" Oh, gee, thanks. Glad he'll always remember me, EVEN THOUGH I'M STILL HERE!!!! :)
Ah! Where's the "Like" button? ;-)
My children are grown now, but, one of my fondest memories comes from a Christmas incident, my oldest son was abt 7-8 and my youngest son was 3-4 . I had gotten the younger one a Red Radio Flyer wagon(from Santa) ,but , Santa didn't have time to put it together, so , of course he had to open the wrapping to find the box, he was excited anyway ! Several hours later the older son had started misbehaving and I said to him,(in the presence of the little one) "I'll fix your little red wagon if you don't stop". The younger son says to me," Mommy, could you fix mine first ". And really , all I could do was burst out laughing, promising to get his wagon put together.!!! I've never forgotten that, guess it will stay with me always ,.... C. S.
When I have to go into work early and leave before the kids get up, my oldest(9) will call me at work just to say "Good Morning and love you mom".
When my daughter was about three she said...
I don't want to grow up...I will miss you!" Me..."everyone must grow up but I'll still be here for you"...her "Well when I get big and you get big you can live with me"...I think she meant when she is big and I am old...
Little man - instead of say "I love you too" he says "I love you twelve"...Just out thing be he randomly says it...and always when I need to hear it most!
i was at a meeting at our church and my 10 year old son called me just to find out how i was doing and how the meeting was going!!! love moments like that!!!
My 10 month old has learned how to dance--sitst on teh floor and shakes it. The other day, he was sitting on this little trampoline we have in th eyard (one of those rebeounder things)--don't worry, my 13 yr old was sitting next to him. He saw me and screamed. The kid has lungs! Then he sat there waiting for me to get him.
Oh, and when he sees you, he will put his hand up. Most people do not have a clue but he is doing a hi-five. And he gives that toothy grin, tilts his head to the side to play peek a boo. Love it.
I have an owl "drawn" on my car's back window right now from my daughter!! I'm bummed because it's going to rain today:( I love looking in my rear-view mirror and seeing it!!
On my birthday a couple weeks ago my son walks into the house and hands me a gigantic iced coffee from McDonald's. Yummy!!
My daughter not only brought up her own laundry but her brother's from the basement!! Just makes me smile when they do things for each other!!
Thanks for sharing!! Great question!!
