Uneven Milk Production -- Uneven Breasts!!!

My left breast is several cup sizes bigger than my right one since I began nursing 18 days ago. It looks and feels weird! I feel the 'let down' sensation in the left much more than in the right too. Any thoughts??

What can I do next?

After the first few months, I fed exclusively on the left side. It worked for me and both my babies. No problems.

totally normal. i believe advice is to continue to switch off. Ifyou find baby is frustrated with the slow let down on the right then start on the left and then switch Or Conversely if the Left side let down is too strong and the baby is sputtering and choking , start on the right side and hand express some on the left and then switch ( hand expressing seems a little weird but it's not hard and it's natural )

Best bet if you are worried is to see if any local hospitals have a lactation expert available. My hospital did and there was a Hotline type number you could call for reassurance and certain hours you couldl bring the babay in to get weighed and ask questions for free.

Kudos for Breast Feeding!!!!!

ETA: Because i"m right handed it was easier to position the baby on my left breast, maybe ask for help to find a more comfortable hold on the right if you want to keep things even.

Try starting to BF on the smaller side first. That way, you can encourage production on that side. Then switch to the larger side. It will still get the nursing it needs, but the smaller side will get more "work" :)

It's quite possible your baby has a better latch and therefore suction on your left side so is stimulating more milk on that side. This could eventually you nursing only on side unless you intentionally manage it so that you ensure your baby nurses equally on both side.

Or you can let mother nature takes it course, and BF exclusively on one side if that suits you. You'll probably feel very lopsided and want to insert a pad on the right to balance out your bra or clothes.

K.,
I have/had the same issue. Baby always preferred the right boob because it is larger and does hold more milk. the size is never going to change, but offer the smaller side first to boost the supply. I loved being postpartum, when my boobs were engorged and almost the same size again depending on when he ate last. anyhow, it should not be A. issue. it will all sort it's self out when your baby gets older. try not to stress too much.
