Hi Moms. I have a 9 month old little boy who has only one descended testicle. We were referred to a ped. urologist by our pediatrician. The urologist pretty much told us the only option is surgery.................. Any others who have gone through this??? Thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,

There are homeopathic remedies for this but I don't know much about them to recommend anything. Most things in the US are so pharmaceutically or surgically based that it's sometimes hard for the doctor to even know they exist. Check out http://www.tednitin.com/index.htm and do some more research. Like I said, I don't know much about this but I do know that if I were in your shoes I would avoid surgery if at all possible.

God bless!

My son had this when he was born Feb05. He had to have surgery as well. The doc wanted to do it before he turned a yr old bc it is a lot easier on them at that age. We did do it in Jan 06 right after my husband got back from the desert. He was fine the surgery went great and he seemed to not be in any pain afterwards either. Unfortunately they were unable to retrieve the other testicle bc in utero it twisted and cut off the blood supply so it was dead in his stomach. He is a healthy rambunctious soon to be 4yr old. Good luck and if have any more questions feel free to email me.

WOW! My husband had this many MANY years ago. His was surgically removed but remember, times were different back then. Anyway, the undesescended one turned gangreen and they had to remove it.
I would check out the homeopathic route, get at minimum 2 opinions, and go from there. Do research. Even tho I have no need to check it now, I'm going to check the website in one of your replies!
Don't wait too long. The older, the harder on the child.
If there was a question, yes, he has fathered 3 children. The boys are fine!

Hi J.

I have a 10-year son who had the same problem. Our doctor recommended that we wait to see if it would come down on its own. It did. He's fine now. Did your doctor say it would not come down on its own for some reason? I suggest you get a speak to other doctors. I wouldn't surgery if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

Hi, I thought I might respond because, though I haven't seen this as a mom, I have seen it as a nurse. I am a pediatric nurse and I have taken care of little boys with this problem. I saw the response for the homeopathic remedies, and you can check into them. As far as I know, the only real way to fix this is through surgery. Please make sure any homepathic remedies come from reputable websites. You can also ask to be referred to another pedi urologist for a second opinion, this is very common in surgery recommendations of any kind. I am in the process of getting a second opinion before my daughter has surgery (for a different reason, obviously.) Good luck to you.
