UGH - My Hip Popped! Has This Happened to You?

So getting dressed and went to put underwear on, happened to lean wrong or something and my left hip POPPED really loud. It didn't hurt right away but it felt "surprised". I'm 49, and this is my "bad" leg (had surgery in my 20's and it's a tiny bit weaker). It's been sore for 3 days, but not so bad I can't sleep. I know it can take a few days up to a week if you strain a joint.

Has anybody else done this? How long did it take till your hip felt better? Any idea when it's time to worry?

Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yay - it's improving :) It had felt worse for a couple of days but has been feeling better each day. I'm definitely going to pay attention to it and hit the doc if it doesn't resolve. Thanks everyone!

You can call your drs office and ask them this question. they can help you determine if a dr visit is necessary. based on my history of hip popping all the time my dr would say RICE for a few days and give him a call if things were not improving or if they were getting worse.
if you think something may be out of place or if you think somethings torn or anything, if the pain is not managable or if you have developed a limp from this i would encourage you to call the dr today. if its just sore then continue to rest and give it a few more days

I was trying to use the camera on the 'timer' setting - so I could get in the family picture. In doing so (I'm not very coordinated), I did something to it, going around a piece of furniture awkwardly.

It only hurt if I tried to cross my legs, or put weight on the leg at times.

Three weeks for me. I know because I went in to see the doctor and it was on the mend and she said 3 weeks is typical and sure enough, it didn't hurt after the visit.

Carol Burnett used to be able to pop her hip out anytime she wanted to and it didn't hurt her any.
When I was kid I was doing a split on wet grass, went down too fast and ended up with a groin pull.
My hips were fine but it took a few weeks before I was feeling back to normal again.
But after I healed up - I could do hyper extended splits - greater than 180 degrees with one foot or the other on a step or other support.
I was very flexible as a teen - not circus contortionist flexible - but good enough to show off a little bit.
I could bend down and get my shoulders behind my knees or bend backward and put my head onto my feet.
I imagine an Epsom salt bath couldn't hurt your healing process any and swimming might be a good activity that won't stress it much after you heal up a bit.

I can't give you any advice other than take some ibrphrophen for swelling. (On a full stomach!)

I hope it ends up okay!

Not my hip, but sometimes my knee decides to go. Rest is the way I go, but I'm also aware of the what/why. If this is new for you, it may merit a discussion with your doctor.
