I need help! My two yr old hates taking meds. he needs to be on allergy meds or he is sick all the time. We have tried sneaking it in pudding, bribery, threats, and even spanking. I am at my wits end!! It is a hugge ordeal, shrieking and screaming and in the end we are all exhausted. Any suggestions?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the suggestions- many of them I had tried. I do envy the person who can use the dropper while their child sleeps- my kiddo awakes to the turn of the doorknob!! Anyhow, I crushed up the chewables and froze them in some grape juice. He loves them- he actually thinks he's getting a treat!! Thanks for all the suggestions. Also- thanks for the support. Several people didn't agree with the spanking in this situattion- and I don't either, but I didn't know what else to do. Regardless- everyone was encouraging and reminded me that I am not the only one who struggles on occasion!!

Two of my three kids have the same issue. Chewables usually work well, and now several meds come in the strips that melt on their tongue. My kids have no trouble with either. When they were younger, if it HAD to be liquid, I'd wait until they were asleep, turn their heads to the side and use a dropper. Put only a drop or two on the inside of the cheek, towards the back of the mouth. Be sure it's on the cheek so they don't gag or choke. The sensation of the liquid moving towards their throat made them swallow. It's a slow process to get the entire dose down, but it sure is better than the tears, vomiting, and major struggle of trying to coerce them.

What is he allergic to? Can you cut down on the allergens? Does he have food allergies? Can you stop feeding him some types of food? I have greatly decreased my dairy intake and that helps a lot.

Also, have you tried a Netti pot? I use a NeilMed Sinus Rinse bottle with a saline rinse packet and I rinse out my nasal passages - sometimes twice a day if I'm having trouble breathing because of mucous buildup and swelling.

Also, you might want to research how some supplements can help build up the immune system. Look up chia seeds! See if that will help. My friend swears by taking silver water - she feels it wards off many evils. Research amounts carefully - that's a pretty young child! Look for a naturopath practitioner. Oh, I have another friend who experiences relief from allergies through chiropractic care!

Bless you!

If it's a liquid form....my friend use to mix it with juice and then freeze it into a popsicle. What child doesn't like a popsicle?

Good luck!

I had an ordeal like this with my two year old. In the end there was a very simple solution and I hope there is for you, too. We changed the applicator. She loves to use the medicine measuring spoon and she will even take it by herself. We also associate the medicine flavor with a favorite snack. I tell her it tastes like grapes and she then she wants to take it again, on her own.

I went through that too. It will pass eventually. Hang in there.
