My son finished getting all his teeth, including 2 yr molars by 20 months. I considered myself lucky to finish so early!
Can anyone share their experience with their baby's two year molars? My 20 month old is showing signs of teething but he has all of the teeth he is supposed to have by this age, next on the list are the two year molars but I thought he was too young.
Thanks!
Thanks everyone! I guess I didn't realize just how close my first baby was to being two years old, it snuck up on me! All of his teeth were "early" so these must be right on time. They seem much worse than any of his others but I AM glad to be almost finished. Thanks!

When my daughter went for her two year checkup the pediatrician noticed that she already had her two year molars. She said it was early, but really not unusual. So I wouldn't worry!
My daughter had all 4 of hers through by the time she was 21 months old. She kept trying to stick things back there to chew on, and would end up gagging herself. She's 27 months now, and the dentist said they are about 75% in-place. She occasionally complains of her teeth hurting (which is why we ended up at the dentist's office). He said they are pushing the other teeth around and to give her tylenol or motrin if she complains more than usual. . . Good luck, although I don't think these were as bad as any of the other teeth.
Hi J.--I'm a pediatric dentist and mother-to-be. I don't want to give the false sense that I can diagnose over the internet, but it does sound like early signs of teething. Sometimes the signs show up months before the teeth do. Research is limited on teething for the reason that it's a difficult subject to research. From my experience, I've learned that there is a very wide range of normal as far as growth and development among children. It's not unusual for some children to start getting teeth at 4 months and some not until 13-14 months and eruption pattern varies as well. As long as you've been to the pediatrician and your child is medically healthy, we don't worry too much about the early or late eruption of baby teeth.
The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend children are seen by a dentist around age 1 (it used to be age 3, but the guidelines were changed a few years ago). If your son continues to have unexplained symptoms, it never hurts to have a dental/medical exam to rule out other possibilities and for peace of mind.
I hope this helps...
Well he is almost 2. He will teeth a few months before they come up just like the others. These will take longer because they are bigger. My son had his first dental appointment at 26 months and had all four 2 year molars. I think he is right on schedule ;)
well, i can't speak specifically about 2 year old molars, but my son (8 mos. now) had all 8 teeth by the day he turned 7 months old. so i know teething can happen much earlier than expected! hope it goes well....
All kids are different, my daughter started teething @ 4months!. She just turned 5yrs in April and already has her 6yr molars. Don't be worried, just make sure you are taking your son for regular dental check ups.
Our son had all his teeth including 2 year molars by 18 months. Congrats on being almost done with teething! :)
My daughter just turned 2 on 7/30 and she already had her two bottom molars. She is now in the process of getting the 2 top. What I notcied with my older daughter also was the worst signs of teething were before they were even showing through the gums. Once they started to break they seemed to feel much better. The gums feel swollen and a soft. From there the teeth come in about a week. I find that motrin helps the best and for immediate relief those baby orajel swabs work wonders.
