Two Periods in One Month? - El Paso,TX

I am two months post partum. After my baby I bled for three weeks stoped completely for almost two weeks and began my normal period at the end of the fifth week. I thought this was strange since I’m breastfeeding. I bleed for a normal 4 days pretty heave the first and second day then I stop for about 10-13 days then I start my period again. This has happened three times already. I’m wondering if it’s just an irregular period or something else?

What can I do next?

Unless you are experiencing a foul odor, fever, or clots larger than say a golf ball, I don't think you have anything to worry about other than mentioning it to your doctor at your next appointment. When you nurse, your uterus contracts, which can cause irregular bleeding for quite awhile. Plus, it is unlikely that you started your "regular" menses at the 5 week mark as usually lochia lasts 4 - 6 weeks after childbirth.

Good luck!

Talk to your doctor about it but after giving birth your hormones are all over the place and it could be quite awhile before your period settles into anything like a regular routine.
Breastfeeding doesn't always keep periods away and it certainly doesn't keep you from getting pregnant again whether you get your period or not.
Have some birth control in place so you give your body a rest before having another baby.

Call your OB. There is probably nothing wrong but it wont hurt to call and find out.

Breastfeeding or not, there's very little "normal" at only two months postpartum. Still, it would be good to call your doctor and ask. Your OB will be able to give you a much better idea of what is "normal" and what to look out for as a sign of a problem.

At only 2 months postpartum, I'm not sure you can call what you've had a period. It's probably still just postpartum bleeding.

I'm not sure I would call those periods. Just post partum bleeding most likely - but worth calling if you have concerns. I agree, unless it's super painful or very heavy (concerning) I personally would just bring it up next appointment.

Sometimes it is a sign we are overdoing things too - so if you haven't been taking it easy (as you can) then maybe leave housework, etc. to someone else if possible.

I don't think you can look at post partum bleeding as a period, even if it lasts the usual number of days. Give your OB/GYN a call to see what they think. Did you already have your 6 week check-up? Did you mention the bleeding at that time? If you didn't have your check-up yet, make the appointment.

I don't think you should panic, of course - but do write down the dates and the amount of bleeding (as closely as you can recall) and keep track going forward.
