So Thanksging will be at my house this year. My sister will be doing most of the cooking but its my job to get the turkey. There are so many types... What brand would you reccomend and what size should I get? We will have about 10 people.

What can I do next?

well i always cook for the holidays and i'm also a chef. I love turkeys also, it's my favorite holiday specialty. I always get a large turkey. It doesn't matter what brand or anything like that. I actually earn a free one from my local grocery market. I take it outta the wrapper and thaw it in my fridge for 3 days covered and with some water in the bottom. Then the morning that you're baking it I rub the inside of the cavity with salt. (quite a bit) and rub the skin with butter and if you like salt and pepper and cover with foil and bake at 350 for 1 hour then 325 until done. My turkeys usually take at least 7 hours to bake. I baste every hour and it is the juiciest thing you could eat. I don't usually worry about how big a turkey I get, because our family loves leftovers. I make a turkey and rice casserole or make some waffles and eat with it. with chicken and turkey it's pretty much you can do anything with it once it's leftover. turkey salad...endless possibilities. I hope this helps, I know it's not exactly what you're looking for as in a brand name or anything. Great luck and have a happy TURKEY day :) J. :)

Any brand is fine they all taste the same!! Now Size we have 5 adults and a child and we buy the biggest one we can get usually around 22-25 pounds if we could. And if your gonna have 10 people that would be a good size or do two 10-15 pound ones. Its just because we also like to make turkey pot pie and turkey sandwiches afterwards

Why not try a tofurkey this year. A healthy alternative to a turkey. Made from tofu and wheat. They sell them at health food stores, and wegmans.

I don't really think the brand matters much. Everyone usually says Butterball, but I don't think they are any better than the others. In fact my mother won't buy a Butterball because she says they have a tendency to dry out. I think using a baking bag is a great way to keep the turkey juicy if you don't want to bother with basting. Just make sure you take it out of the bag toward the end of cooking so the skin browns up. As far as size goes, I always buy a big turkey because I want the leftovers. Not having leftover turkey would be a total bummer. P.S. Don't forget to take the neck and gizzard out of the cavity of the turkey. I forgot one year and it grossed everyone out. Good Luck!
