Hi moms!
I know this question is not of earth-shattering importance, but where better to ask than a great group of moms?
My question is, how do you make a great tuna sandwich?
I ask because I can't stand canned tuna, but my older daughter loves it, and often requests a tuna sandwich for her lunch. I'd like to make her sandwiches taste great. Any tuna sandwich aficionados out there who would like to share their recipe?
Wow! I went to eat lunch (NOT tuna, haha!), came back, and already so many wonderful recipes! You mamas are wonderful!

LOVE IT!! I don't know the exact tuna to mayo ratio, but I get 2 large cans of tuna in water, drain well (like squeeze it with my hands), then 4 large heaping tablespoon of mayo... a few squirts of yellow mustard and relish... salt and pepper to taste... YUM!!
Instead of relish, I've also used diced green apples, which I prefer, but takes more work ;)

I love tuna fish sandwiches but hate seafood. I cannot eat Bumblebee brand tuna because it tastes too fishy to me but love Starkist white tuna in water. I mix mine with mayo, and chopped up pickles (whatever kind I happen to have works) and sometimes I will chop up some peppercini's to add a little something. Now I'm hungry!

Mayo mixed with tuna and if she likes pineapple, try a ring of pineapple on top...soooo good!!
Also, I don't have measurements but growing up my grandma would add mayo, onion powder, garlic powder and celery salt and mix all together. Gave it a little tang...especially great for tuna salads...YUM!!!

I like tuna, dill relish, celery, but don't have to have anything but tuna and mayo. My ultimate fave tuna sandwich though is a tuna melt!
Tuna, mayo, celery (or fresh english peas, shelled) on wheat with swiss cheese and tomato. Butter the outside of bread like making grilled cheese sandwich and grill in a skillet until warm and cheese melts. OMG! I think I know what I'm having for supper!

I am a plain jane when it comes to tuna, just tuna and mayo.
But I would like to suggest trying it with Triscuits Cracked Black Pepper & Olive Oil. Yummm.
So my suggestion is maybe try some crackers with it instead of bread just to mix it up.

Chopped celery, chopped pickles, diced olives (you can buy them canned like that), light salt and pepper and mayo Tuna packed in water is healthier than tuna packed in oil.
We eat it on sandwiches or on crackers. My husband likes to add diced tomato to it, but I don't like it that way. He will also eat it plain... I can't do that either!

If your daughter likes curry... a little curry powder (the usual Indian yellow stuff... I know there are a million kinds) mixed with tuna and mayo is really good! It may sound weird or exotic, but my 5 yr old likes it!

Just add a couple tablespoons of mayo or miracle whip. Mayo is my favorite, but I don't like anything else like celery or onions. Just simple ol' Mayo :)

Ahh the tuna melt is my one and only speciality! LOL
I use the tuna from the packets (like Starkist) keep it in my fridge (Tastes way better cold) and add lots of fresh chopped veggies (red pepper, green pepper, carrots, onions) and a dash or two of lemon-pepper seasoning. I add very little mayo (mostly cause I think mayo is gross lol) so mine tends to be less "goopy" than others.
I put on a bagel or roll and toast with some cheese on top.
Yum yum...now I'm hungry for a tuna melt. :-)

I don't use salt. Tuna is SOOO salty on its own. I use chopped celery, carrots, green onion, cucumbers and/or sweet bell pepper (usually no more than two of those at once). Then I also put chopped curly parsley (fresh) and some garlic powder and grated peppercorn. I only use enough mayo to have it not be so crumbly, the mayo should b used sparingly...
I sometimes serve this with sliced tomatoes or frsh spinach or both. Toasted bread. I get a lot of compliments.

I only eat albacore tuna in water in the flavor seal packet never the canned stuff. I usually add in a tiny bit of mayo, dijon mustard, salt, pepper, about a teaspoon or so of dill pickle juice and tend to add in whatever catches my eye that day. I love it served in whole wheat pita bread or on naan bread of any type.

This sounds gross, but trust me, everyone who eats this sandwich ends up loving it:)
One can Tuna
dried dill
lemon juice
olive oil or favorite vegan mayo
Smash this all together to taste (I like extra dill). Then top with curly kale that has been massaged with a little olive oil and red pepper flakes.
The heat of the red pepper flakes mixed with the dill and lemon flavor is amazing!!

I used to like tuna, mayo, chopped sweet pickles or relish on crackers. My mom used to send the kits to me when I was in college, but I got so tired of it that I don't like tuna at all now. My husband likes just tuna and mayo(or leftover chicken and mayo) on whole wheat bread with slices of tomato and lettuce or spinach.
My new favorite is egg salad. I spread mayo on the bread, add a chopped egg(cooked in the microwave takes only 1 minute), and sliced green olives.

I like tuna with a bit of mayo, and a bit of Greek yogurt, and some chopped cashews. You could also add some halved grapes. This is a sweeter option that most previous posters. Super yummy as a chicken salad, also. You can add cheese and/or avocado slices, also.

You'd have to play with the ratios because I go simply by taste and not exact measurements, but if you mix a can of tuna, sweet pickle relish, 3-4 boiled eggs chopped (depending on egg size), and mayo, the combination makes a delicious tuna sandwich. Just as a side note, I have a friend who has tried to duplicate this by "layering" the ingredients like a typical sandwich. This doesn't work. You have to mix it in a bowl first, and then spread it on the bread.

I know this sounds strange, but I put a cap-full of white vinegar per can of tuna. It gives it an interesting tang. I also like chopped sweet onions or celery for a crunch factor. Instead of plain mayo I mix it with creamy horseradish sauce and Pete's red hot and if I have any some Dijon mustard. Mmmm...Yum!

I use mayo, chopped sweet pickle, and a bit of the pickle juice. Then when I make my sandwich I put lettuce, tomato and pepper jack cheese on it. Yum!!!!
FYI, to keep the bread from getting soggy, make sure you lay the sandwhich down in her lunch box on the piece of bread that doesn't have the tuna on it. That way the sandwhich won't be soggy when she goes to eat it!

I like mayo too, but not everyone does, or can eat it. So, I discovered adding a little olive oil and some chopped black olives (and sometimes hard-boiled egg). It's good! and less calories than the mayo.
