Has anyone elses kids had stomach bug? My 6 year old son had it last week, but hes still having stomach pain, & throwing up(occasionally). Just wondering how long it lasted for others?? Or if theres anything else that could be causing him problems?

What can I do next?

I'm sorry your little one is feeling bad. My 4 year old had a stomach bug about a month ago. She started out with stomach cramps and eventually started throwing up as well. All in all it lasted about 2 weeks. I hope your son feels better soon.

i always recommend a trip to the doctor...

It is important to remember that adults can not always convey what is bothering them and children have a harder time too.

FIRST .. your stomache is not actually near your belly button but rather up under your ribs.. so ask where the pain is... and vomiting, even if infrequently can still mean something serious.. NO panicking because it may be nothing at all. But you really should consult the doctor and always get bloodwork. this means so much to have done when they are well so that you have a comparative base for when they are not well. But get bloodwork..ask for a CBC and also ask for fasting glucose level.

More info to educate and not scare... vomiting, increased thirst, decreased energy and increased frequency to urinate are all signs of childhood diabetes which is fatal and often missed and please note that all of these symptoms need not be present together so get a blood test. AND vomiting is also a human response to pain.. so find out if something is hurting him.. remember that the appendix is on the right side just above the hip and if inflammed can cause pain and vomiting. also pain can be referred elsewhere and your little one will not be able to accurately locate the source of pain.

Now all of this is just info to educate yourself and the public... but baseline bloodwork is recommend to have on all children.
And i hope you son just have a small stomache bug and feels better soon. -mb

My 6yo daughter had been complaining of stomach pain off and on for several weeks. It used to be just at bedtime or when it was time to get ready for school, so I took her comments with a huge grain of salt. Last month she took abx for strep, then had a stomach bug a few weeks later; now she complains about her tummy almost all the time, to the point of barely eating even her favorite meals. Our latest suspicion of the culprit is the new "LiveActive" cheese that I've been buying. I meant to keep it just for me, but she had it for a snack lots of times because it was convenient. So I'm going to stop feeding it to her and hopefully it will improve. Was your son on abx recently? I know that can also contribute to digestive issues since the good bacteria often get killed with the bad.

A trip to the doctor is in order. The stomach thing is only lasting a couple of days around here.
