Yes I have my 5 year old son has had 2 sets and will most likely get a 3rd set in a few months. Both sets fell out about a year after surgery. My insurance did not cover it because it was pre existing. It ran about 5,000.00 but if your insurance covers it your expense should be much lower. His ear infections did cut down quit a bit, but when he did get one his ears drained alot which is what the tubes help do. Instead of his ear getting clogged with fluid it just drained out. Last surgery he had his addnoids out too, that helped cut down sickness, The surgery is not difficult at all and very quick. My son was right back to normal that afternoon. Good Luck!

Just a word of caution from someone who had tubes put in over 20 years ago. I have some slight hearing difficulties, and although I can't definitively say that its due to the tubes, the first thing every doctor says when they check my ears for the first time is "whoa- thats a lot of scar tissue!" My actual hearing is fine, but my range is affected- ie, if someone is directly in front or behind me, I have a hard time hearing them, and if I turn my head, it's fine. I am pretty sure that the scar tissue diminished the circumference of my ear canal... But, I was having tons of ear infections, and it did greatly reduce the number I had. Just giving the other side of the coin!

Our son had them in when he was 10 months and he is just about to turn 2 and still has them. Before he got the tubes, he had 4 infections in 4 months and the last one just wasn't responding to any antibiotics. Since he's had the tubes, he's only had 3 ear infections and they are easier to treat as we can put antibiotic drops in his ears. Insurance covered most of the procedure and we used Dr. James Walker at NFRMC. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if needed. The only con is they have to be put to sleep but honestly, he was only away from us for about 10 minutes max so it was a very quick procedure and the benefits have made it worth it.

I don't have experience with the tubes but as far as cost it should be covered by your insurance secondary to frequent ear infections. Your child's doctor's office should help you to make sure it's a covered procedure.

My son had tubes put in when he was 2, they fell out when he was almost 4. They made a HUGE difference. He didn't need a second set, and has only had 3 ear infections since the tubes were put in. He is 5 and a half now. :) His DR is gone now, but his practice is still on the start of 43rd and Newberry rd. They were nice there. No clue about costs. Sorry.
