My son had tubes put in when he was 14 months old... but this was after several months of CHRONIC and repeated ear infections, even while on antibiotics!
I did not regret it at all...
However, if he hasn't had a history of fluid in his ears, and repeated ear infections, I would wonder if it was necessary..... my grandson went to an ENT for a hearing evaluation, and they saw fluid, and recommended tubes.... we decided to wait.... a week later, he ended up with an ear infection. I really think that doctor looked at her being a "CHIP M." and figured it would be easy money, and that she wouldn't question the need. (Her son was on CHIP insurance at that point....)
No other doctor had ever mentioned fluid being in the Eustachian tubes....
