Tub Knob Covers?

Certainly, I am not the first mother of a toddler who's figured out how to turn on the faucet in the bathtub. But try as I might, I cannot find anything out there to cover them up. I've found tons of spout covers, but nothing for the knobs. The door knob covers won't fit (I tried). And when I tried to call the only site I found on-line with something to offer (and which looked outdated), it wanted me to re-dial an international number which seemed strange to me. Any ideas, fellow Moms?

So What Happened?

As it turns out, there isn't anything out there. Safeandsound kids was the one place that had something, but was also the place I wrote about that wants you to call an international number and I just didn't feel comfortable with it. Even the first poster's husband (who's in the business and tried to be very helpful, thank you) couldn't find any. Door knob covers don't fit, and even it they did, my son just figured out how to dismantle them. I'm going to try the poster's suggestion for the pool noodle. Not sure how else to keep those little hands from reaching up every time I have him in the tub. I tell him, "no" and he stops, but needs constant reminders. Thanks to everyone for trying!

I'm with you on this one! I looked on my favorite childproofing product website (www.onestepahead.com) and found nothing. Looking forward to hearing responses from others and learning what's out there!
Thanks for asking this question.

Hi S.,

My husband has a babyproofing business and has access to lots of babyproofing products that are not found in stores. We are up here in Nevada but, if you call him, I'm sure he'll be able to tell you what options are available and how to get your hands on the item free of charge. Here's his website address and telephone number:

see if you can find big pool noodles. cut it to the right size and cut a slit so the tube opens and you can cover the knobs. these also work for fireplace corners/edges, counter tops, even corners. They are easy to clean (hot soapy water) and plus they are cheep!

My advice is that you never take your eyes off this guy, because if its not the faucets it will be something else and you will need a break every now and then, so get a sitter with a lot of energy to help sometimes. Whoever said "you can't watch them 24-7" was just wrong. You must watch them 24 hours, 7 days and that's why its the hardest job you will ever have.

Dear S., I have a Moderatly autistic Daughter who would get in the tub and overfill it and just turn on the cold water (in December). We resorted to just removing the cold water handle. Just be carefull, because then we lost it(forgot where we put it). Good luck. J.

My oldest had figured out the lock to the pool gate at 18 months, so I understand.

Since your son will never be in the bathroom alone at this age, just make sure that you let him know what consequences he will receive should he continue to do it and then follow through. At this age he needs to know that you are the one in control, not him. It will help later on when he wants to do things that will be more dangerous and he will have this to look back on to know that his actions will have consequences.

For now, just keep the bathroom door locked. When you're ready for potty training you could use a potty seat in his bedroom.
