TTC Question...

So, my husband and I decided that we are going to start TTC baby number 2 by the latest March, and closer to January.
I am currently on the pill and was wondering when would be a realistic time to discontinue it? When should I expect the hormones to be out of my body? I heard it can take 3+ months, but some get pregnant as soon as they stop taking it. Should I just stop taking it now just in case my body takes longer, or should I wait until closer to January?
What are your experiences with this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well thank you all for your answers!
I am going to talk to my husband tonight and see about getting off the pill after this pack is over and using a back up method until January. All will be ok if we end up getting pregnant before than, but it just fits our plans better to conceive between January-March.
Thanks! :)

With my first I went off the pill for a month and used condoms. The very next month I conceived my son. With my second, I went off the pill and did not use a back up method but only had sex right after I went off and again 20 something days later (my husband was on a business trip). I got pregnant with my daugter that time. Apparently you can ovulate twice or much later than expected when you go off of the pill.
This may be an old wives tale but you are more likely to have a boy if you have sex right around ovulation and a girl if you have sex before ovulation.
Good luck and be happy with however it all happens. Somethings you just can not plan.

Stop now, but use a backup form of BC until you are ready to conceive. It can take up to 3 months for your cycle to even out and regulate on its own, but it can also happen right away too because your cycle is getting a little messed up. It took me 6 months to ovulate after I went off it, but I have always been irregular.

I would stop whenever you run out of pills, if you're okay with possibly getting pregnant before January. You can definitely conceive right away, but it could also take you a while. The hormones leave your body pretty much immediately but that doesn't mean you will get pregnant right away...sometimes it just takes time!

They do say that it can take the hormones to get out of your body 3-4 months. In my opinion I don't think it matters too much anyway. I got pregnant when I was on the pill with my 1st. She seems to be normal. Do what you think is best. Best of luck to you.

I needed a "break" from hormones, so I went off the pill. I had always heard that it takes a few months to conceive after coming off the pill. Well, I chose not to use any other method of prevention, and became pregnant right away with twins. It was crazy. I guess ideally, you should let your body have about 3 cycles free of "artificial" hormones, then you can start trying. So, if you don't want to get pregnant right away, be sure and use something else. Not saying that you absolutely will become pregnant right away, but the possibility does exist :D. Good luck.

The pill varies with everyone who takes it. You might as well quit now. It can be a couple of months until it gets out of your system. It could be as long as a year. Notice how quickly your regular cycle re-establishes itself.
For me it was more than 6 months until I could get pregnant following the pill the second time. The first time I had hypothyroidism and so the pill made me fertile like a woman will well regulated hormones. I stopped taking it only when I realized I was pregnant.

Ha ha ha, 3 months. I got pregnant with my son within weeks of stopping the pill. I didn't realize I had no more refills and had just switched insurance and was due for my annual, so in the 2 weeks it took me to set up appointment and get a new prescription, I ended up pregnant :) Best thing that ever happened to me!

With both our kids I went off the pill. Used a condom for about a month and the next cycle we concieved. we didn't want to risk getting pregnant until hormones were more under control. although dr say you can concieve immediately. I know most people don't have as quick of a time as us.

I think this just depends. My SIL missed one pill and got pregnant. It took me 6 months off of it the first time, and 2 1/2 months off the second time. I would go off in Dec, then you could possibly conceive in Jan but it may take until March.

My experience was this. After taking the pill for about 5 years, I stopped taking it in January of 2006 and got pregnant in March which ended in miscarriage. I got pregnant again in August. We were very active as well, it just all depends on your body. I will say this though, we will never know why I miscarried the first pregnancy, but it really could have been the hormones in my body still. I read that a woman is supposed to use protection for the first 3 months after getting off the pill for this very reason. Of course I read that little bit of info AFTER what happened to me. Just sharing! Good luck and hope you don't have any trouble TTC next year :-) You will be armed with more info than I was!

Everyone is different but with me I was off the pill for almost a full year before I conceived. Like someone else suggested ... I would stop the pill but use a back up method until you're ready to start.
