TTC For 5 Years, Period Late

Ok. My story's a little long but here goes. DH and I have been TTC for close to 5 years now. I am 25 years old. We have had many many false hopes, where I thought I was preg and every test turned out negative. The last hope was in october 2007. I skipped AF completely that month, when it's always shown up before. Was under some abnormal stress that month though. AF has always been a little sporadic, coming at 29 days one month and 32-33 days the next. I was cranky, had period cramps, and tender breasts. Thought for sure I was preggers. Tested 3 times. AF came the next month, around the time it was supposed to. After that major let down, I pretty much gave up on having a family. I didn't even chart my periods anymore, just figured AF would come when she came.
Ok, now for my present situation. April 21 I had one of the worst periods of my life. My whole lower abdominal area felt like someone had it in a vice. I was constipated when my stools are normally pretty loose during AF. Oh the agony! Once the first two days were over, I could go to the bathroom, and I wasn't cramping as bad. Stopped bleeding April 26 I think. Around May 3, I woke up to go to the bathroom, and had a little blood on my TP. Looked just like it does when AF's gonna start, very light. After that little spot, I didn't have anything else. I started thinking then, well what if I'm pregnant now? I pretty much put it out of my head. I thought about it on occasion the following days and weeks, but didn't really pay that much attention to it until about a week before AF was due. Usually around that time, I'm crabby, pretty sore breasts and get cramps about a day or two before AF comes, but nothing like that this time. I first noticed my cheeks were more rosier than normal. Then, I started gently pressing my abdomen, like the doctor does when she's giving an exam, and I noticed it was kinda firm. I didn't have breast tenderness but nipples are much more sensitive than normal, but I started getting very fatigued, sleeping 10-12 hours a night for a couple days, then sleeping normal but feeling tired throughout the day. AF was due somewhere between the 19 and 22. Breasts are starting to get a little tender now, but not too bad. I'm feeling some cramps and little twinges in that area, and they're different from AF cramps. Have been feeling the little cramps for about a week and a half now. For about a week, I've been peeing more often than normal. Getting a little testy and moody. Feel like ripping someone's head off one minute and the next I'm perfectly fine. My abdominal area feels firmer and a little bigger than last week. I've noticed scents are stronger now, and I've been having dizzy spells. No morning sickness yet, just some vertigo throughout the day. Oh, and I'm discharging like crazy! Before AF, I'd have a little wet spot in my underwear that would be about the size of a silver dollar or soand lasts about a day or two. Now, The entire cotton liner part of my panties are soaked. The discharge is white and kinda slippery, and it's been like this for a good four or five days now. No foul odor. I've never felt like this before. I'm planning on HPTing on Wednesday morning, but I'm scared to death that it's all in my head and I've put my body into a false pregnancy and the test will end up BFN AGAIN!! Help!! What do you all think? Could I really be preggers this time??

**Update 5/27/09** Wasn't able to get my test yesterday, so I'm going today to get it, waiting until tomorrow morning to take it to make sure my hCg levels will be high enough. Will let everyone know how it turns out...

I once read in an old medical book that birth of a baby was positive proof of a pregnancy. Duh. It wouldn't hurt to take prenatal vitamins. See your Dr soon as possible to find out if you're expecting. That it would take 5 yrs of trying for someone in their 20's seems unusual. A blood test will tell what's going on. Good luck!
Additional comments:
I'm so sorry. This can be such a roller coaster - high hopes followed by crushing disappointment. You and your husband should see a fertility specialist asap. There could be a combination of difficulties (on your side and your husbands too) that need to be overcome in order for you to conceive. It took us 4 yrs of trying (I was in my 30's) before we had our son, and our first try with IVF with ICSI worked like a charm.

Sounds like it... but you can test usually up to 5 days before period is due. Best find of the century for me was Pregnancy Tests at the Dollar Store... They look just like the ones at your OB/GYN office... trust me they do work... just got a positive last month and for the first time I wasn't hemming and hawing over if I should waste a $12 to $15 test.

It does sound like you may be prego. Dizzy spells is 1 of the early signs for me. It tooke me almost 2 years to conceive my 2nd child, so I do know how you feel. Good luck & please update when you test. I will keep you in my prayers & I hope you get a BFP test!! (((HUGS))

First, I would just take a home test and stop stressing out by waiting until Wednesday.

Second, regardless of the result, I would see your GYN, especially for the very painful period you describe.

THird, if you aren't pregneant, I would push your GYN or see a different one - you need a fertility consultation. YOu are very young so they may be hesitent, but you have been at it for a long time and what ever the problem, may be very treatable. It may even just be a matter of timing. Maybe you don't ovulate every month - they can track tha tso you know the best time.

Last have you tried a home ovualation prediction kit. At 34, it had taken over a year to get pregnant, but that kit did the trick.

Goo luck, I hope it is good news. Take your prenatal vitamins, and eat well - diet helps with conception too!

Its definitely possible! I recommend either First Response Early Response or Clear Blue Easy Digital tests. Also, if they are negative but no AF, have the dr do a blood test because I have known a couple people to not get accurate results on urine tests who were in fact pregnant.

Here are a few questions to think about:
1) Are you taking prenatal vitamins? All sexually-active women of child bearing age should take them - even if you aren't TTC.
2) Do you go to yearly GYN appts?
3) Is your dr aware that you have been unsuccessful after such a L. time of TTC? If so, and your dr has done nothing, find another dr! My dr said they give you 1 yr of TTC without success and then they start testing (first with the man because he's the easiest/least invasive to test).
4) Do you have a history of cysts, miscarriages, birth control use?
5)Have you confirmed that you are, in fact, ovulating each month?

If it turns out you aren't pregnant, a wonderful book to read is "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Also, make sure you are living healthy (eating right, taking vitamins, not smoking, drinking, doing drugs) to prepare your body to grow the healthiest and happiest little baby boy or girl!

It certainly sounds like you are. I've never heard of the discharge being a symptom of a false pregnancy, only encountered it/mention of it associated with true pregnancy.

My advice, if your period is already over due, test now. Don't wait until wednesday. Get an EPT (you could have used one 5 days before you expected your period). Also, even if it shows negative, go see your doctor and get a blood test. HPT's are useful, but don't always show a positive because some women aren't producing enough of the hormone at that point, which is something that would need to be addressed by a doctor.

All your symptoms definetly sound like pregnancy. But if it isn't, you need to get your obgyn to see if you have endometriosis. I always had extremely bad periods before I was pregnant with my son, and also had a lot of pregnancy symptoms when I wasn't pregnant. I was lucky and had a surprise pregnancy, but after my son was born, I began to get even worse periods, and began to get UTI's all the time. As it turned out, I had Intersitial Cystitis causing the UTI's. But even after they treated the IC, my periods would bring me to my knees. I went back to my doctor, and he suggested doing a laproscopy. He found endometriene tissue around several of my organs. It was making my IC worse as well as my periods. He was able to remove most of the tissue at the same time. We haven't tried to concieve since then, but my doctor recently had an ultrasound done on me and couldn't find any tissue. He said I should be able to get pregnant, but if I hadn't had the surgery done, it would probably have been impossible.

I really hope you get the outcome you're looking for! I can't wait to find out if you're really pregnant.

Sounds like a lot of the pregnancy symptoms, but I don't want to give false encouragement, either. Not sure why you want to wait until tomorrow, but take your home test on Wed. and as soon as you get your results, schedule appt. with your OB/GYN. Chart your last cycles, because dr. will ask, and explain you've been TTC for 5 years, so that they will schedule and check you out quickly. Meanwhile, take things slowly. Rest. Be patient, and no heavy lifting, no caffeine, etc. I don't remember having heavy clear discharges when pregnant, so put yourself on bedrest until you get some answers. If you're working out of home, please take things easy as best you can.

Hi T. T.~

I'm really sorry to hear of your long journey of ttc. I can relate b/c I had been ttc for 5 years as well and 7 pregnancies and 6 miscarriages later I got my bfp. I really hope that your s/s are those of a bfp; however it wouldn't hurt to make sure there isn't something else going on. The discharge although it has no odor and the other symptoms mentioned which sound abnormal for it to be AF has me concerned. Go ahead and test. That would be a good place to start, but if you aren't pregnant find out what's going on. Don't give up I'm a testimony that prayers do come true.

Good Luck~
