Hello, I just started TTC my first baby and I am 37 years old. I am concerned that I will have problems getting pregnant because of my age. has anyone else ttc a first baby at age 37 and gotten pregnant without any medical intervention? What methods did you use? I get so worried about it sometimes. My Boyfriend is 32 and we are both in good health. I used the ovulation sticks and will know if I am pregnant next week. I hope I am, but am trying not to get my hopes up. Thank you in advance for any advice or support you can give.

So What Happened?

Thank you for the responces to my question. They made me feel much better. I started my prenatal vitamins about 2 months ago and have not had caffine in years. I had a pap and physical 6 months ago and all is well. I will buy the fertility book this weekend. Thank you so much. My hopes are now very high. I will try a new position if this one did not work. I ordered the early pregnancy test because I cant wait to see if I am late to find out. I am going to take the test as soon as they get her

I TOOK A PREGNANCY TEST TODAY. IT WAS NEGATIVE, but I will try again next month.I wish babies did come by stork. LOL

I spoke with my doctor today regarding lab test to check the quality of my eggs. The doctored ordered an FSH, TSH, CBC, CMP, and progesterone level to be done on certain days. I just wanted to make sure that everything is ok. I had basic labs done at my last physical but have never had labs to check the quality of my eggs. I will let you know. Sprinkles of Baby dust to all.

my labs to check my egg quality came back today. my egg quality is excelent. the nurse at my doctors office advised me to take plain mucinex so I started taking that today. I bought a clearblue easy fertility monitor a week ago and it seems to be working good. It said I was at 2 bars (high fertility) yea. I hope soon it will show peak. basby dust and thank you to all.

I had my first at 37 and my second at 39 and my husband is almost exactly 10 years older. No problems. We were both healthy and used the ovulation sticks. Not to get too wierd or graphic but it's all about the angle.

Everyone has offered great advice. A great prenatal vitamin and an extra supplement of folic acid is a must. It is being discovered that women should be on this up to 3 months before getting pregnant (while the eggs/follicles are being produced for 3 months later) and it is important in preventing birth defects such as spina bifida (sp). In addition, since you are over 35 the guide is to try for 6 months and if you don't conceive see your OB or a fertility doctor to be evaluated. For under 35 it is a year. Sometimes even if there is a problem it may be something small and you would never know if you don't see a doctor.

Baby dust to you and I hope you find out great news soon.

I went through 7 years of TTC with 1 surgery, 2 ectopics (problems with fallopian tubes), 6 IUIs, 3 IVFs and now I have 20 month old awesome twin boys.

Hi S.:

I was one month shy of being 37 when I got pregnant with my now 3 year old. My husband was 39.

I didn't really use a method. I did, however, stop taking birth control pills 10 months prior.

Try not to worry. Stress won't help you to get pregnant. I know many stories (my aunt, for one) of women who just tried and tried to get pregnant, then finally signed up for adoption. Then, of all things, they got pregnant! The worry and stress of it all was gone.

I wish you and your husband much success! Good luck with next week!

1. Get off ALL caffeine!!!
2. Get on prenatals and an Omega 3.
3. Get Taking Charge of Your Fertility and start charting.

I am 37, about to be 38 on Saturday. I have been through a lot with pregnancy. If you have questions about charting, give me a shout. I currently assist a few of my friends in this matter.

Hi S.,

My advice relax and use the ovulation prediction kits. I was 36 when I got pregnant with my first two weeks after deciding to try and getting off the pill. We got pregnant the second time quickly too, but lost that baby and I was 38 at the time I think. We just had twins in May and I am about to be 41. The last time we did go to a doctor for assistance. Good Luck!

Hi, I was 37 when I conceived my first child which took about a year to conceive. (since have struggled with multiple miscarriages) We did ovulation kits, etc., with no luck. Then I found the book Taking Charge of your Fertility. After following this method, we conceived in 3 months. It teaches you exactly how to read your cycle...not everyone ovulates exactly at 14 days! With your age, if it takes you longer than 6 months, your might try talking to your doctor about other methods. I wish you the best and don't forget to have fun while trying.

Don't stress out! Easier said than done, I know! The more you start stressing out and "really trying" to get pregnant the less likely you will. Just relax and have a great time with your boyfriend! I hope everything works out for you!!!!

We had our children in our 20's, but it didn't happen as quickly as you'd think. After years of being indoctrinated with the idea that you'd get pregnant immediately with unprotected sex, I got pregnant the first time without knowing it when we weren't even trying. I had an IUD and it's was an ectopic pregnancy that was unplanned and life-threatening. I lost my left fallopian tube to that.

That got me thinking about really having a baby and we decided within the year to start. Having intercourse with a purpose had a dash of spice to it and I was surprised that it took three months to get pregnant.

The second time my husband decided it was time for a second and I went along with it but not at whole heartedly as with the first baby. It seemed a bit more of a chore then and it took five months to get pregnant then.

I'd say just let it happen. There is a science to it, but it's really a natural process. It's kind of silly to try to plan it all out unless there is some compelling reason to conceive through medical intervention.

I had my first child at 37 and just had my second at 40. There are some great suggestions here for you, but there are things that your boyfriend can do as well and the first suggestion I have for him is boxers, boxers, boxers. Within a month of switching my husband to boxers (after 7 months of trying) I got pregnant with our first daughter. He also needs to avoid alcohol (including beer) and hot temperatures (hot tub, etc.).

Don't put too much pressure on yourself! Relax. It will happen.

We had our first baby last year when I was 41. No fertility treatments, easy pregnancy, and easy delivery of an 8 lb, 6 oz baby girl. We made a conscious decision not to worry about having a baby or else our relationship could suffer. Best wishes to you!

We started trying for a baby right after we were married. Seven years later when I turned 36 I FINALLY had a baby! There was no medical assistance to conceive. After many examinations the doctors still have no idea WHY it took so long. I guess it is true about everything being in God's time and not ours :-)

Hi Cat!
I am 36 & 23 wks pregnant w/Twin girls (our first babies). PLEASE try not to get discouraged & stay POSITIVE! I left one fertility specialist's office in tears cause she made it sound like I would NOT get pregnant w/out the help of IUI or IVF. I talked to my gyno about it & she put me on 50mg of clomid & I got pregnant the 1st month being on clomid! If I would've gone the specialist's route we would have spent thousands!!! I was also taking Royal Bee Jelly (suppose to help w/egg quality as we get older). We got pregnant within the first couple months of trying & were really lucky! Age does ultimately play a factor, but try not to fall into the AGE trap. Talk to your Dr about it & make sure your Dr. is supportive! Best of Luck to you...T. ;-)

all i can suggest is 2 things: first get a physical. make sure you really are in top health. adjust any meds or weight issues now, not later. second, due to the fact you are over 35, if it takes more than 6 months, see your ob/gyn. no you aren't over 40 or 50 and probably can conceive with no issues. however, the proactive approach is probably recommended. "taking charge of your fertility" by toni weschler (?) is a fantastic book and will teach you lots about your body. the same people who write "what to expect when you're expecting" now has a book out about "before you're expecting". i'd look for that one too.

Don't worry it'll happen. I had my first at 37 on the first try and my second at 39 on the first try. My husband is younger too. Now I have two healthy beautiful baby girls with no medical intervention. Just try not to stress yourself out, drink a lot of water, take your prenatal vitamins(hopefully you've already started...if not, start now) and look forward to your blessing. It'll happen and everything will be great! Best wishes!!

I am younger- but my friends- both in their 40s did not want any children and were using birth control when lo and behold- they will welcome their baby in November. It can and does happen in those years. Be aware that at any age it can take awhile to get pregnant, I would try for about 3 months and then talk to your obgyn about it if you are not pregnant by then.
