Trying Very Hard to Find a GOOD Doctor near Akron, OH

Ok I really need some help.

I've recently moved to Akron. I have a 2 y/o son & a baby on the way. I can NOT find a dr. for my son that I actually like.
I'm not 100% against vaccinations but would like to have a REAL say in what is given to my kids. Every Dr. I have found so far out here says that I am a "neglectful" parent because I don't agree with bombarding my son with shots. Does anyone know of a pediatrician near Akron, I AM willing to travel if they are worth it, that is not so M.D. minded and is actually willing to let the parent have a say in what is done to their child?

I could really use the help.

What can I do next?

I have been taking my 3 yr old to the group that my husband and I go to since the day she was born. Stow Kent Family Practice is on Graham Rd at Fishcreek in Stow. My husband sees Dr James Bailey, and Kaitlin and I see Dr. Michelle Holmer. I have seen and have taken Kaitlin to Dr. Bailey and found that the 2 doctors can have completely different philosophies on things. I sought both of their opinions on flu shots for Kaitlin. It was nice getting a "2nd opinion" without having to seek out a completely different practice.

Dr. John Weber at Children Medical Group on Market St. ###-###-####. He was recommended by a friend when I was pregnant with my first child, 9 years ago, and I have been taking my kids to him ever since. He was willing to let me interview him prior to selecting him as their pediatrician. He listens to what you have to say, along with what your child has to say. He's been really good.

If you're willing to travel, come to Wadsworth, and see Dr. David Karas at Children's Hospital Physician's Associates (CHPA). He is AWESOME and we love him. And he has NEVER given me ANY grief over my decision to hold off on or even NOT vaccinate my children. ###-###-####.

Let me know where you're at in Akron, and I can tell you the fastest way to get here. Hopefully you're in West Akron, which is only 20 minutes.

Blessings, J.

We use Children's Choice Pediatrics in Stow. Ohio allows exemptions to vaccinations. It is not true that a child has to be vaccinated to go to school. Dr. Sherri Tennpenny has a practice in Middleburg Heights. Be a strong advocate for your children!

I use the CHPA (Childrens' Hospital Pediatrican Association) in Fairlawn (on White Pond Dr). They have a few different doctors there. Some of them I like others I only use when I have to, but I'm not sure what their veiws are on shots... I have let my kids have them all since it causes so many issues with school if they don't have them.

I will say I also tried the CHPA in Barberton before Fairlawn and would not recommened them. It has been 5 yr or so since I took a kids there, but I didn't like how wrong they were with my new born & also I don't agree with someone scratching himself & then wanting to shake my hand... don't think it is very doctor like - sorry. But I have also heard other stories & people that didn't like them.

Good luck finding one you like - I hate looking for doctors!!!

I also use CHIPA in Akron. Dr. Shaw is very nice and seems understanding and open to communicating with you! I also vaccinate, but she was able to explain things to me.
Good luck!
