Me and my husband have been trying for over a year to conceive a child, and no matter what i do or how i take care of myself it hasn't worked yet. My doctor reconmended taking prenatal vitamins to keep my body healthy and hoping that would work its been over 5 months that I have been on the vitamins and still no luck. I was told by a friend that GNC has a fertility booster pill and that one of her friends took them and she ended up getting pregnant., I was wondering if anybody other than her has tried them and to see if they work. I would rather hear from someoneelse before i go buy pills that arent going to work.
Help Me Pleasee??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No luck, I started. And then today alot of other stress started piling up, so I am going to put it off for a few months and stop trying and when everything is settled back to the way it was hopefully something good will be the outcome. Thank you all for your support and help.

Good luck!

I grew my own vitex on a gorgeous bush in my back yard. Silly me though, I actually had real medical problems. I just needed to find the right doctor to take me seriously.

My husband and I tried for 5 years to have children with no success. One day I decided to cut all additives and preservatives out of my diet. I had some health issues also at the time. My health improved greatly, I lost 16 lbs quickly and became pregant shortly afterward :) I now have two healthy, beautiful children.
It's my belief that our bodies are in panic-mode when they're filled up toxics and this makes it more likely your body will refuse a pregnancy in favor of taking care of YOU first. Once these chemicals are removed from the picture, your body is more willing and able to focus on nurturing a baby :)
Best of Wishes! I've totally been there and know the frustration you feel! :)

I've taken a pill called Vitex twice now... and gotten pregnant within the first two months each time. You can find it with supplements normally at specialty stores or online. The key ingredient is chasteberry, which is very good for regulating female hormones.

(I'm currently taking it again, hoping for a special gift for the holidays!)

I am sure this will sound unsympathetic, but physiologically, you have got to stop worrying about it. All the stress hormones and what they cascade into may be what is keeping you from getting pregnant. Relax, enjoy the trying, and if you beyond your mid thirties, you might consider seeing a fertility specialist.

K., I would look for a new doctor. It sounds like he/she isn't doing all they can to help you conceive. Right or wrong, my doctor started helping me by performing different tests after only six months of not conceiving. Good luck and God bless.

K.,

I am sorry for the delayed response but thought you had quite a bit of good advice and your choice to relax and try again later is a good one. It's amazing what will happen when you least expect it. I did however want to let you know that two years ago I had gone to a chiropractor because the natural c-curve in my neck is actually curving in the opposite direction (car accidents) anyway while there he told me that he helped women get pregnant with adjustments. Believe it or not I think it helped me too. I started seeing him in July and at the end of August I found out I was five weeks pregnant. We weren't trying but I honestly feel the adjustments helped.

I am 38 and will look into other options before trying pills. If I'm not successful with trying to conceive number 2 I'll be looking for another chiropractor. ;o)

Good luck and have fun trying. I'll say a prayer it works out for you both.

I haven't tried the pill but I wanted to add that accupuncture works for infertility issues. I've had many friends that have successfully gotten pregnant after a few visits.

Peace,

Have you been diagnosed by a doctor yet for any kind of problems you or your husband may be having? I was diagosed with PCOS which was the reason it took my husband and I 5 years to conceive and that was with IVF. The best thing to do is get tested (you and your husband if you haven't already) and then go from there...I wouldn't waste my money on over-the-counter pills. If they seem too good to be true, they probably are. You'll be in my thoughts...I know this is super frustrating and hard.

As another person said, there are two people involved in making a baby, and the difficulty in conceiving might be on your husband's side. Still, there's nothing wrong with eating right and getting healthy! I don't know about these pills particularly, but I do believe that some people have problems in this area because of nutritional deficiencies, or food intolerance, or something. Getting both you and your husband on a good diet (I like the Blood Type Diet), may help.

K., It took my 7 years to conceive my son, we ended up with IVF as our solution. I am hopeful that you will not have to do anything so drastic. I know that this journey is packed full of frustration and very emotional every single month. It is even alienating, because not everyone understands around you.

I have not heard of nor tried the vitamins in question, but I would tell you this, that it is common, after a year, to begin looking into more options like taking a medication to help make sure that you are ovulating at a specific time of the month to help you along. If you want to go all natural, there are lots of tricks and I would suggest that you go to a Natural Food store or Local Book Store and look for a book on the subject, it will give you diet and exercise options, there is even yoga to help with fertility.

I guess what I want to relay to you is that I let my Dr. slow us down for three years I rode this emotional roller coaster because she just didn't want to take the next steps. I sunk into depression for a couple more years and finally went to find a new Dr. I was immediately amazed by how much they could do to help me and was pregnant within a year and a half.

Good luck to you! I hope there is a little one in your very near future!

My mother had a hard time trying to concieve children also; she said she used something that was healthy and actually needed for some expected mothers.-GERITOL. I know it sounds weird but geritol is a strong source of iron. She took this for a month or two and was pregnant right after. Try it, Good Luck!

Hey K.-

After the miscarriage of our first child in June 07 I was really focused on getting pregnant again. I went to www.nativeremedies.com and looked at their fertility remedies. I also bought the OV Watch....(www.ovwatch.com)tells you 4 days prior to ovulation that you are fertile. We got pregnant the 2nd month of using the OV Watch! Hannah was born 10/08! Had wasted too much money on ovulation kits. Best of luck. . .

My SIL had trouble conceiving, they had decided to go ahead with artificial insemination. The doctor suggested that they take a vacation to relax so that the AI would have a better chance of working. They had already planned a cruise and went. They both relaxed and enjoyed themselves. When she went for her visit to start AI, they ran a pregnancy test beforehand. It came back positive. If you have a lot of stress in your life that could be effecting your ability to conceive. God Bless and Good Luck

I was always cautious about food/medicine one would take in since it affects the body functions. For concieving problems, I would suggest seeing a fertility doctor first. If that does not work, try a Chinese herbalist. I had a miscarriage 4 years ago, then after a year, my husband and I were ready to try again, but after trying for 8 months, it was not successful. Then I went to see a Chinese herbalist, he explained how the different organs in a human body are reaponsible for different functions. And the organ that controls the productive system for my body was weak, so he prescribe some herbs for me to try. It was herbs that I have to boil into soup to drink. Tried it for 3 days, and visit the herbalist again, he would listen to my pulses and then determine if there needs to be changes in the herbs. Then when he is able to hear that the pulse is improving, he change the herbs, and I tried it for 5 days and revisit for check up again. It continued for a little bit over two months and I was pregnant. My daughter is almost 19 months now. I cannot say that it is fully the herbs that made me pregnant, but I think it did prepare my body to be healthier to get pregnant. And I was also taking prenatal vitamin at the same time too. Hope to hear your good news soon.

There are some books that might help a lot, and you could probably find them at the library, such as The Fertility Diet (mostly avoiding sugar and maybe wheat and such), or Fertility Wisdom (by a Doctor of Oriental Medicine). The things they recommend are surprisingly helpful.

Have you been tested for PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) it is very common and sometimes a low carb diet can help you conceive. It has something to do with blood sugar effecting your ovaries. You should look it up. It is one of the most common reasons woman have trouble conceiving. Good luck. Oh yeah I have it. I have been very succesful controlling it and conceiving on a low carb diet with plenty of excercise.

Hello K., I think it is a good idea to take the vitamins to be healthy and in the event you do get pregnant your baby will recieve the benefit. The higher quality the vitamins the better. Actually, recently I heard from a woman who was in the same situation as you ... she took Vitality for Life vitamins (from an on-line store) ... and being more healthy really is a help. However, they do not make you get pregnant. I would be extremely wary of any pill to take for that from GNC or any other "over-the-counter" method. Do you know to check when your most fertile time is? Try to have as much relations as possible during that time. Good luck!

Note to get the preferred customer discount for the on-line store - you need to be referred by an existing customer. I can help you with that if you like.

I tried to conceive for over a year and a half with my husband. When we went to see a specialist they tested him and HE turned out to have the problem. After we figured that out, we had a much clearer path ahead of us. If you haven't already done so, I would have him do a simple test at the specialist first, and then figure out what YOU have to do.

My husband and I have also been trying to conceive for some time, and I recently had a very young, single mother (her pregnancy was unplanned) ask me if I was taking prenatal vitamins. Well, she didn't remember that she asked me that months ago, at which time I said yes, of course! I have an almost-5-year-old and been trying for a while so, I know already to take the vitamins! However, while you need the vitamins for a healthy baby, they really aren't going to make you pregnant! If you are talking about Fertile Aid for Women, I would be wary. From what I have read, it is for people who do not have regular cycles. I ovulate every month and am pretty regular, so taking it could actually make it harder for me to get pregnant. I don't know what you've tried yet, but if it's been over a year I would go to your doctor or OB/Gyn, or get a referral to an OB if you haven't already. Good luck, and baby dust to you!

As for my single mother comment, young single mom's don't get mad at me! It's just frustrating for us older, stable, happily married folks to take advice from someone who has NO idea what it's like to go through fertility problems. ;)
