I was at CLC (Certified Lactation Consultant) training about 2 months ago, and the lecturers stated that you can not get pregnant & will not get a menstrual period until the baby starts going longer periods of time between feedings (4+ hours). They used the example of when the baby starts sleeping through the night. The CLC lecturers base the training of science based evidence. But I agree with the other mothers and I myself added my own protection. I hope that I helped a little.

I've been told this is true, however, LESS likely doesn't mean you can't get pregnant!! I'd still take other measures to not get pregnant again unless you are ready for another.

Just so all of you know, this is absolutely false! Ask your docotors and they will tell you how many upset women they get in their offices with positive pregnancy tests because they believed this myth. Both of my doctors stressed this to me after I had my son because it happens so often. It really isn't even a little bit true. I have a couple of friends who can personally tell you this! it is why I got on the birth control I and another mom told you about that doesn't affect breast milk production that much. I would say that "less likely" isn't even true, so be aware!

You may be less likely but there is still a possibility. Esp as your baby gets older and starts solids and sleeping thru the night and may not be nursing as much.
