Hi all-

My almost 4 year old daughter and I will be embarking on our very first vacation together, since her birth..Let me clarify, we have been on family vacations with my parents and sister, but this will be the first vacation as a family, just she and I. We are planning on going to Sea World in San Antonio and I am needing ideas on hotels, tickets to Sea World and any fun adventures in San Antonio that would be kid friendly. She has never been to San Antonio, so this will be her first time visiting beautiful San Antonio. I have plans to take her to the River Walk and possibly the Alamo, but not sure if she is still too small. Any insider insight on this would be welcomed! Our travel dates are tentatively set for July 30-Aug 3..We plan on driving, because to fly it would be too costly plus the additional cost of a rental car, we will be there the first week in August for sure, still trying to work out the logistical dates right now..Thanks in advance!!!!

Hey -
I took my son when he was about this age and he loved Sea World. We spent two days there - one day doing the rides and one day doing the water park part of it. Then, we also went and saw a 3D movie at their Imax theater (we don't have an Imax where we live).

We also went to the Alamo and walked the River Walk. The River Walk was cool (you can do boat rides, but we did not). He was completely disinterested in the Alamo.

We stayed in a nice hotel near Sea World and they had a nice pool and did outside dinners, s'mores, and projected movies onto the wall of the hotel at night. So, we had a great time. But, we only stayed 3 days - so we didn't have time to pack in a bunch of stuff.

Good luck!

Right now Sea World has a deal where you can get a 5 dollar kids ticket. Check out their website for details.

I guess I am a wimp, I have never gone on a vacation with my 6 yo daughter, just her and I alone. I'm not the greatest driver and with all that goes on in this world, I worry about that. Have a great time, I love SA! My dad has a condo there and lives in Austin so been there plenty of times.

I've answered this for others 3 times so forgive me for cutting and pasting.

Firstly, let me just interject that JULY is no time for bringing small kids to sea world. (OR AUGUST FOR THAT MATTER) It's just too danged hot for them. Even with the lagoon part...unless you plan on bringing a fan spritzer filled with ice water and keeping it on them continually, it's like walking through the Mojave.

So, do the waterpark FIRST! They will only hold so many at the waterpark and after they're full, they don't allow anyone else in until someone leaves...which could be eons. The waterpark is Fab for the wee ones. Better than at Hurricane Harbor because of the water levels (about 6 to 9 inches in the kids play area) but there's not allot of shade there so bring TONS of sun block.

You are allowed to bring in a 6 pack cooler with you. I packed mine TIGHT with water and ice and brought a bag of extras for the day.

Renting a locker is $15 I think but you get a $5 coupon to use in the park somewhere.

Parking is $15 as well but you can get it on line for $13 sumthin which at least saves you some cash.

At Believe, sit close to the boxes that are places around the bleachers. They spray water on you periodically and will cool you and the kidlets off.

At Azul, DUCK, because the bird WILL fly close to your head. lol My daughter nearly got pegged by one.

The otter show is cute.

OH...you can rent a stroller On Line as well. I would check on line to see if they are available. They go quick. If there aren't any available on line, you WONT get one at the park when you get there.

I just got back last week and took our 3 yr old. He was exhausted by 2 and we got there at 10 that morning.

Hope this helps...

Hope you have a GREAT time!
Smiles to you and your family.

She will love sea world. You may want to take a stroller with you or rent one. She will get tired of walking and you don't want to carry here there. When we have gone down there I try to look on Hotwire and get hotels we have had really good luck with that. We stay around the Air port area which is about 20 mins from Sea World but it's a good location and seems to be cheaper. The river walk will probably be more for you. My little ones did fine on it but my husband and i enjoyed it much more than they did. They also have a zoo there that my kids have enjoyed. And we have found coupons sometime for it for at least $1 off and to me when traveling every little bit counts. I know no matter what you do down there you will enjoy it and you will be making great memory's with her!!

Good luck and God Bless!

Hill Country is so nice, but pricey!! We stayed there when my daughter was almost 3, but last summer we stayed on the River Walk at the Omni. They are very kid friendly, on Saturday night they had a movie, Bolt, playing outside be the pool and had free popcorn. Also, when kids check in they get an adventure back pack with little activities in it for kids. We will only stay there from now on!
It is located on the very end of the River Walk so it isn't loud and crowded!

This is a great website that has helpful info: http://commerce.4adventure.com/EStore/Scripts/Skins/SWT/H...

Click on the kids stay and play free. They have many hotels to choose from, kid friendly ones, and great rates, you're also provided with your Sea World passes upon arrival at the hotel so no waiting in line when you get to the park!

I love San Antonio, especially Sea World. It's where we vacation a lot because we have family there we can aslo stop and visit so makes for a great trip. I honestly wouldn't recommend the Alamo for her as young as she is, I know it's a great place to visit, just don't expect her to be into it yet. : )

Maybe stop by and take some quick pics so she has something to look back on when she's older and you can teach her about the history of it. But it can be very boring, even for an adult. : )
The river walk would be great! Take her on the fairy ride along the river, it's great.....and cheap!

Good luck, hope you girls have a great time together!

I just booked my Hotel from July 30 through August 1st :) We are stopping there on the way back from Port Aransas.

We are staying at the Hilton San Antonio Hill Country Hotel & Spa... our friends say that they have a bunch of limestone fire pits and everyone cooks smores at night. They also have a multi level pool so it feels more private and you girls could go to the spa together one day :)

Also... the Great getaway package at this hotel is LESS than other prices and includes breakfast!

NOTE** I have found that booking the hotel and getting the passes separate will save me about $200.00 (family of 4) rather than going through the Sea World kids stay and play free site. It may vary between hotels but that is a big enough difference to do your homework!

Have a great time!

they have short 25 min or so rides around downtown in a horse drawn carriage, i think it was like $30, also stop in san marcus on the way there or back, they have a natural spring there and you can take a ride on the glass bottom boat pretty cheap, just google glass bottom boat in san marcus tx.
